A bit off topic but I was watching Look North last night and there was a piece about litter on Hulls streets. There's upto 8 tons a day being dropped in Hull and they where saying is this how we want to promote COC. IF the 8 tons is correct it's a mighty lot of rubbish kicking around.
. The other half works up North Bransholmeand when I drive down Wawne Rd past Kingswood school and onto Pennine way the amount of litter almost hits you in the face. It's mainly Plastic bottles n Cans. It's a complete mess.
I saw that on Facebook (said posted 1 hour ago). Straight away went to get tickets but all had sold out. Not sure how many were available but they went very quickly.
There were loads of people calling Burnsy this morning, ranting about how disgraceful it was that they were holding a circus in a cemetery. It's not really a circus, at least not a traditional one - The show, which is supported by Arts Council England's Strategic Touring Fund, is inspired by the Greek legends of Orpheus and Eurydice, and will take audiences through a gravity-defying tour of the underworld, backed with music by 100 member of the Hull Freedom Chorus.
Me and Askew and the ladies are going Big fans of Orpheus and Eurydice...in fact I had hoped we might have signed them in the last transfer window................
A crass decision to hold it in a cemetery. Trample on other people's beliefs and values, why don't you? Beggars belief they ever thought this idea was a goer.
Hopefully they made some adjustments after the opening reviews of their performance at Tower Hamlets Cemetery... Depart review at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, London – ‘gravely misjudged’ please log in to view this image It begins with such promise: there’s a festival feel as crowds gather in a field at sunset and a man on a platform moves to ethereal music. But Depart, Circa’s contribution to LIFT – a promenade piece set in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park – very quickly deteriorates. This is circus in snapshot, short acts dotted across a wooded cemetery. As we’re led in large groups through trees we see an acrobat strung up in the boughs or a dancer twisting on a headstone. It's about two minutes of circus for every 10 of slow trudging. In the mud. And the dark. Clearly this is a major logistical operation, with lighting and speakers and ropes and acrobats scattered through this wooded cemetery, so it packs way too much audience in – which makes moving people around a very slow affair. The circus is pretty good, but then that's the bare minimum, isn't it? The sine qua non of a circus show. If you want a walk through woods in the dark, just go and walk through some woods in the dark. You don't have to pay £20 for the privilege. There just seems to be no reason why this need be in a cemetery. Apparently the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice was the starting point for the show. Not that you could tell. There's lots of dull symbolism in the black and white costumes, the veils, the Latin chants. Doesn’t amount to much meaning though. The whole thing is very bitty, the ratio of circus to not-circus is massively imbalanced, and it's way too long. It’s lifeless show, a triumph of ambition over execution. https://www.thestage.co.uk/reviews/2016/depart-review-at/
