It's odd that of all the personalities he could have chosen to use online, he picked that one.

I agree on the generalisation, although it's inevitable.ķ

The point I was addressing is the social aspect which drugs create - any drugs, but principally the so-called social drugs, which I don't really count heroin as being.

It's not inevitable. People just need a bit of tact when they type their post out, rather than getting offended or defensive and firing off some ill thought out, closed minded, overly judgemental bullshit...

What's that got to do with generalisations, which is what was being referred to as inevitable. Did you think your post through?

When people fly off the handle they make generalisations... I take it that wasn't clear?

It's possible to be chilled on cocaine. Yet another example of your lack of knowledge on the matter.

Yep and I would agree with that. It's the opposite side to the dark side I mentioned earlier. The problem is, with drink or drugs, it does come down tyo how they are used and, just as pertinently, how well equipped the user is to cope.

I think generalisations are both problematic and necessary when discussing the issues on a forum such as this. Rather than criticising generalisations and seeking to target one specific issue, it's best to let them air and challenge them by reading them properly and answering what they speak of. A far bigger problem, on here, is posters who jump into conversations without taking the trouble to understand what has been said throughout, or ignore it because it does not fit their particular agenda.

My view on drinking has changed slightly through the "debate" on this thread. It is interesting to see how others look at drink and how closely they associate it with drugs.

I do not look my level of drinking as a problem and some posters think that way about drug use. Perhaps I should, so thanks.

I am not going to abstain, but I will maybe not be as quick to judge others.
