When I was primary school I used to sit in class and we'd all write down our 'best ever' team. It was always 4-4-2 had all the usual players. I haven't done it since then but thought it would be interesting as I bet they vary wildly given our different ages. I haven't got anyone pre 90s because I haven't got a clue about them.

I'd probably go for something like this in a 4-2-3-1 formation:

    Buffon
    Zanetti Nesta Maldini Lahm
    Vieira Makélélé
    Messi Ronaldiho C.Ronaldo
    Ronaldo

If I did this again tomorrow I could probably change 8 or 9 of them for other people.

Anyone else want to share theres?

That's a cracking side Walter. I'd just swap Viera for Ashbee.

Obviously if I was doing my real all-time 11 it would have Ashbe at the base of the diamond with Elliot, Pricey and Whitmore tearing **** up.

I was born in the late 80s so not really no. I find it hard to imagine a better keeper than Buffon.

Answer my own post. He was well past his best by then.
In his (and Forest's) prime, I thought he was the best in the world and a massive reason for their success. Massively underrated. My older brother lived within a mile of City Ground when they were in their pomp, was a pass holder and followed them in Europe. I did see a few games in that era, as a bit of a relief from City who if I remember right were at their lowest around that time?
Fantastic shot stopper, mistakes (or even 'could maybe have done better' moments) just didn't exist, totally dominated the penalty box. Distribution wasn't an issue for goalies in those days, it was just a 'hoof'.
I also thought Neville Southall had a similar purple patch. No coincidence that Everton were winning things at the time.

    Cafu Beckenbauer Baresi Maldini

    Best Matthäus Zidane Cruyff

Surely impossible to judge. You're basing this purely on reputation? Was Yashin that good week in/week out or even consistent for Russia? We'll never know. Was Baresi better than Bobby Moore? How good was Eusabio,Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney etc?

That's 'my' all time 11. Yours will no doubt be entirely different. That's the beauty.

Re Yashin - He was the only keeper that's won the Ballon D'or ('63). Fairly indicative of his talents.
