Back in the day when Two Tone was all the rage i remember listening to The Beat - Mirror in the Bathroom and thought it was an okay song. 30 plus years later and whilst listening to one of the multitude of digital radio station it got played and i thought to myself, actually this is a bloody good song and promptly went home and downloaded it.
What songs do you remember listening to originally and thinking it was averarge, then realising years later upon hearing again you thought wow actually this song is pretty damn good ?

    Ghosts - Japan.

Hated it when it first came out. I remember been given a lift to College by a guy I used to work with at Fenners and ranting all the way down Bricky and Chants Ave about how **** I thought it was. Eventually at the end of Spring Bank West he told me to shut the **** up or I was walking the rest of the way.

I now love it. It's beautiful, haunting and evocative.

Always makes me think of that journey though.

Have you heard Susanna and the magical orchestra's version?

    Complements the original perfectly imo.

This is weird, I have got myself on Spotify, the free version that is, and clicked on the radio link and from there I've made a playlist, on that playlist is a song I've never been bothered with, but can't stop playing it at the moment Neil Young's Heart Of Gold, listening to it now in fact.

Did the writers of Good Morning Star Shine sue them for plagiarism?<laugh> Remember at the time when that came on the jukebox someone saying " What sort of daft **** wakes up and says good morning Star shine? ****ing hippies."

Kind of straying off topic a little bit, but how is it I don't like U2's original 'Hurt', but love it by Johnny Cash?

Actually, thinking about it, I used to find this song annoying, but now I love it.

Unchained Melody. First heard it in the mid 50's as an orchestral by Les Baxter( reached No1 in the US). Then a vocal by Al Hibbler. Today many great renditions.

Recorded by over 650 artists. The only song to have four different versions in the top 20 in the UK at the same time. And one of only two songs to have four different versions to get to number one, the other being "Do They Know It's Christmas?".

Also one of the select band of songs which got to number ones which don't have the title in the lyrics.

Guns n Roses - Sweet Child of Mine/Welcome to the Jungle. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit.

I was a Techno Raver in my teenage years, (that would be the early 90s). So by default, anything Rock or Grunge was a load of **** in my teenage eyes. Only when I got older did I realise what I'd missed out on.

Ahh, didn't know know that. Knew it was too good for U2. Just as 'It must love' was too good a song for Madness to have written.
