The Hydra was a mythical beast that was slain by Hercules. It had many heads (usually 3 but sometimes up to 12), if you cut one off, another (or sometimes two depending on the version) would grow back in its place. A hydra organisation is one that doesn't have a leader per se, it operates as cells which follow the same set of rules. So effectively, if a 'leader' is killed, the organisation goes on without any problems because it has loads of others operating at the same level. It's one of the main reasons why a 'war on terror' is the stupidest idea this planet has ever had and it's a war that can't be won.
You over estimate the terrorist groups. They're down to pushing an ideology in the hope some social misfit will grasp it, and they can then claim some 'credit' even if they knew less about it than the media.
I think you and a lot of others underestimate just how dangerous they actually are. It isn't the ones that they're trying to push it on, it's the ones they've already persuaded. Social misfits maybe, but ones with university education and the capability to use that knowledge in the worst way imaginable. I read somewhere, possibly the BBC website, possibly not, that just over 3/4 of Al-Queda had a degree. People picture them as barbaric terrorists, but in reality, they're much more dangerous than that.
They must all be at home studying, as the most of the ones who've committed the atrocities are no mark ****ers who've never achieved anything.
You're right, but that's only because they're the disposable ones. It's the ones doing the persuading and the training that are of greater concern.
I think 'most' underestimates it, it's around 99.9% no mark ****ers. We're living in what must be the safest era for generations. These so called master brain cells, can't even poke their head out of the desert foxhole for fear of a drone, never mind master mind a Bond style Global take over.
I nearly put 'all', but then I remembered some of the 9/11 hijackers were highly educated. Though having just checked, it seems only a couple of them were, most of them were no mark ****ers like the rest.
They aren't hiding in the desert, most of them are openly walking around in the countries they are in. Are you just making this up as you go along? Wake up. These aren't Bin Laden style cave dwellers (also a myth), they're much more dangerous than you clearly think they are and it's that attitude of complacency that's stopping us wiping them out completely. There have been more terrorist attacks in the last 12 months than there have been in the last 10 years, safest era my arse. Just because you don't hear about them on the news doesn't mean they aren't happening. If you were a splinter organisation run by a network of terrorist cells, when would you strike? Would you openly just attack people and cities en masse? Or would you wait until there was a huge global engagement, when resources were stretched out and attentions were diverted elsewhere to engage? I know what I'd do.
We shouldn't pretend the world was a safe place in the past, is a safe place in the present or will be a safer place in the future, its always been a dangerous place.
Silly you, of course it does, nobody gives a **** about people in the Middle East blowing each other up. They're about as popular as Gypsies.
I know it's a bad source, but Wikipedia does keep an updated list of terror attacks as they happen. This is just in 2017, look how many are terror organisations we know of that are active in countries near to us. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents_in_2017
It's ironic cause you're obviously being sarcastic but this is how a lot of people actually think. You had all that #PrayForParis and French flag profile pictures but nobody gave a monkey's **** about what happened in Lebanon the same week. Nobody cared a few weeks ago when a US airstrike in Mosul killed hundreds of civilians. Your satire isn't that far from the truth.
