    45 years ago today The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, the album that made me fall in love with music, was released and it is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever.

    And 50 years ago today the father of all music festivals opened at Monterey, California in 1967 and it launched "the Summer of love".

    This is probably its' most iconic moment....

    Never like to see an instrument, who someone has spent time and effort making, smashed up (note - Keith Emerson and keyboards), but Jimi was just something special. Was too young for the IOW when he played there, so never saw him, but I love most of his music. Red House, Wind Cries Mary, If Six Were Nine, All Along the Watchtower ...... the list is endless. My favourite album - Cry of Love.

    Here's a tale for you.

    The night Jimi died, he and Ginger Baker had just procured a large amount of 'medical grade cocaine' which got delivered in a large jar.

    Baker went to the nightclub with said jar to meet Jimi, but for whatever reasons (likely female) Jimi didn't turn up. Ginger said "it's a shame he never bowled up that night, cos if he had there's no ****ing way he'd have fallen asleep..."

    BTW, I did listen SA.

    While I'm here. I was going to put up The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead, but you can listen to that for yourself. This is my choice. Simply a great song. Appropriate, and XTC as well. What could be better. Listen to those lyrics. The Disappointed. Turn it up:

    One of things I never liked either. Pete Townsend smashing his guitar into the stage, and Keith Moon blitzing his drums. Whatever they were implying, that was just wrong. And Jimi setting light to his guitar, wrong. Just my opinion. Apparently Townsend said at one time on seeing it, "he's stolen our act".

    Excellent.! Nearly posted that myself.

    Incidentally, the Towers of London in the XTC video include the neighbouring Kensington towers to Grenfell Tower, if I am not mistaken.

    OK, favourite track off Black Sea. I'd already bought the Drums & Wires album, loved it, but had heard Respectable Street [which I love these days] and was iffy about it. Then a mate played me the full album in the background while we were just animatedly talking, probably about Sailing, as we were full on that at the time. Anyway, suddenly this track came on and the mate broke off his chat, leaped across the room and wound the throttle up on the amp. Out exploded Paper & Iron:
