Oh indeed. But when I've had the misfortune to hear/see the prog, it has contained technically very able singers.
Sophie Ellis Bextor, what shall we text her? The greatest of parlour games. An example: Hi Sophie. Can I **** your Mum?
MES is my hero. The only hero. Off to see him in Manc in August doing some bizarre performance (without The Fall) about Wyndham Lewis. Can't wait. Girlfriend is not so excited. Hup!
Haven't seen them/him for a long time. Remember once doing Stockport away and a Fall gig on the same night. Not everyone's chupa chup, granted, but it seems somewhat benighted to consider his singing ability as something to measure, nevermind compare it.
He's up there with Whitney & Mariah and let that be the end of it. No, of course not. Though I think it is possible to be a great vocalist as much as a great singer - an important difference. And for me MES is a great vocalist. No one else like him. Well, there have been imitators of the style since, but none have done it with all the numerous ingredients that MES has. IMO
Further to this, Hull City played at Stockport on 18th August 1998 drawing 2-2. The Fall played the same night at the Students Union at Manchester University - details here http://thefall.org/gigography/gig98.html Sad though it is to quickly research this, I think I have identified the day in question. This is life.
MES must have been heavily influenced by Beefheart and the likes of early Can but agree, MES is very much his own incarnation and indeed, no one else like him.
Without a doubt, certainly. I think your Wedding Presents/Pulps and maybe even Arctic Monkeys have taken huge cues from him in terms of an almost spoken word delivery in a regional accent - though none with the same nuance or wit I don't think. IMO.
Bill is Dead is one of my favourite songs of all time. The Wedding Present are one of my favourite ever bands. My mate's bird cheated on him with David Gedge. He was fuming to start with, when he found out it was Gedgey she was knocking off he found it all rather amusing. True story is that.
I don't own any Wedding Present records but I do like a fair bit of what I've heard. Did he stick with her? Takes some brassneck that...
Our Kid was / is a massive Wedding Present fan, he was in the fan club and got the full set of the 12 heavily limited edition 12" singles released in one year. Corduroy is ****ing brilliant.
