The club that even spellchecker and the internet swearing police never liked. I see it's at least allowed it now and we don't have to make up names for them. So how have they started? To date they are undefeated with 2 draws and a win and sit one place above Argyle on the ladder. Can we upset their current record or what could possibly go wrong...... Scunthorpe seem to be a team a lot like ourselves who have huffed and puffed over the years but never quite managed to get to the top of the pile. They have basically been up and down the 3 leagues over the years althugh I think spending more time in the lower two than the Championship. I did read somewhere that they have a reputation for being a "prudently" run club who don't throw penies away. Sounds familiar from somewhere.............. Anyway they are a decent enough league one outfit so Saturday won't be a gimmee that's for sure. Here's to a good game once more with the points staying at home.
I still see them as one of the new boys in the football league.....1958 when they got elected to the league.....visited them once during my basic RAF training (1960/61 season) when I was stationed at Kirton Lindsey before being posted to Aden.....Stanley Matthews had if I remember correctly just returned to Stoke, would have been 46 ?....FA Cup third round....Stoke won.
I suspect that we will see the same side that drew on Saturday: GK: McCormick DF: Miller, Edwards, Bradley, Sawyer DMF: Sarcevic, Fox AMF: Jervis, Carey, Grant FW: Blissett One change on the bench: Ciftci on for Fletcher
Be interesting to see what he does with Ciftci. DA has a reputation of giving players a couple of weeks to settle in but I suspect we might see half an hour from him. I wouldnt be totally surprised to see jamie ness start either. Finally, watch out for Sokolik's new 'haircut'.
What nobody calls it Canada and they all call it France? That's shocking BC........... It's nice to hear Ciftci won't be trying to eat the opposition and will channel his efforts whilst down here.
4:4:2 by the looks of it with Ciftci and Jervis up front, Sarevic, Fox, Ness and Carey in midfield. Interesting. Or is it 4:3:3 with Jervis, Ciftci and Carey up front?
Losing 1-0 at H/T.....Sarcevic red carded just before the break......Ref seems to be playing a blinder yet again at Home Park.
Oh dear that didn't end well....followed the matches on the BBC Sports programme.....every game mentioned but the Argyle game....not even the sending off mentioned during the afternoon......luckily.
But he started as a lone central striker didn't he, albeit with Jervis and Carey on either side?. Whatever happened, it didn't work!
We played pretty well before the sending off. It was a pretty dozey thing to do by Sarc and the red card was the obvious outcome. We even played some decent stuff in the 2nd half. It was hot & sweaty and we looked pretty knackered come the end. Scunny were 'professional ' and scored 4 goals to our none. Fully expect an extra training session for some tomorrow! The ref wasn't great but neither was he the worst we have seen. Ho, hum, move on. If we won every match we would be top of the Prem!
I think everyone is being a tad generous with this. The Referee was absolutely crap as he was the last time he was here. The man has no presence whatsoever and wasn't fit to hold a whistle then and isn't now. Scunthorpe are a horrible team. They are a dirty bunch who like a number of others fall down at every opportunity. Their keeper wasted time from the first couple of minutes. Are you Wycombe in disguise should have been the chant. They cheat and they dive. We outplayed them for the majority of the first half but somehow couldn't get the ball in the net. They scored a sucker goal from nothing and no way deserved to be in the lead. The sending off was Sarc's own fault. He was grabbed hold of by the defender by the scruff of his shirt and if he had any sense he would have thrown himself down. The lino wasn't even looking or else he must have seen what went on. The Ref was dealing with something else so the lino should have been aware and watching. Despite a bit of pushing and shoving the defender didn't let go and Sarc just nutted him. Utterly unprofessional and idiotic. The Ref had no choice with the decision for that one so can't blame him this time. The result in the end at 4 - 0 was a travesty of injustice. There is no way on this earth Scunthorpe were four goals better. We just ran out of puff at the end which led to the final 2. Even at 1 - 0 with 10 men I thought we could and would still get something out of the game. But once they scabbed their second that was it. The record book will show this was a dicking but it truely wasn't in my opinion. For anyone wanting to defend the Ref I will point out one thing as an example. It was blatantly clear to anyone watching that their Manager had said to target Carey. He got fouled over and over by various players and it was plain to see what was happening. Ref couldn't see it though and it took Carey to point it out at kick off in the second half for him to even notice. I am sure every Scunthorpe player had a turn at kicking him up in the air and that doesn't just happen by accident. It had to be a strategy. Game best forgotten and to make matters worse the Women's Rugby Team lost to New Zealand tonight so I've had no joy watching sport at all today.
In case you haven't seen it, Antoni Sarcevic apologised unreservedly on Twitter yesterday evening. Antoni Sarcevic.@ASarcevic15h15 hours ago More Can't emphasise enough that how gutted & sorry I am to everyone involved with Plymouth today! Stupidity & I regret my actions. Antoni Sarcevic.@ASarcevic15h15 hours ago More More to let down the boys as it was a game I felt we could have definitely taken something from! This was pretty warmly received by fans. Antoni Sarcevic.@ASarcevic15h15 hours ago More & a big thankyou to the majority of the fans for the nice words in this moment of time! Means a lot! #Classfans please log in to view this image
I agree sensible not a good weekend of sport. 1..... 0-4 at HP. 2.....Rugby.....not so much beaten in second half....more ripped apart. 3.....and more local.....Dag & Red 5-1 Bromley.....they were 2nd and unbeaten until then......in the National League.....plus Torquay losing to an unknown mop. 4...........
