RSPCA officers who were called to rescue a lizard from under a bed discovered the reptile was actually a dirty sock.

A "terrified" family thought a dangerous creature had entered their teenage daughter's bedroom and called the animal charity.

But when they arrived at the property in Coventry last Friday, they were left baffled to discover the "intruder" was a pink stripy sock.

Vic Hurr, an RSPCA officer, said she first approached the "lizard" with caution, not knowing if it was a dangerous breed.

Ms Hurr said: "As it wasn't very light, I got out my torch to see better and that's when I realised it wasn't a lizard at all - it was a pink stripy sock.

An RSPCA spokesman said: "It was definitely one of the more unusual call-outs. The family called us in a bit of a panic, they were terrified a lizard had got into their house.

" It was obviously dark in the room and I think fear just set in."

My thoughts....were is the other pink stripy "lizard" hiding ?

James Murdoch has warned the Government that 21st Century Fox's £11.7bn takeover of Sky is a test of Britain's claim that it remains open for business after Brexit.

In the wake of the decision by Karen Bradley, the Culture Secretary, to trigger an investigation into Fox's broadcasting standards, Mr Murdock said Sky and the country could lose clout in the shifting global media landscape if the deal failed.

My thoughts....Well he would say that wouldn't he.

Arsenal's European campaign began in chaos last night as thousands of Cologne supporters forced the kick-off to be delayed by an hour.

The Europa League tie was delayed amid safety fears after an estimated 20,000 German fans descended on London with only 3,000 tickets, and huge crowds built up outside the Emirates Stadium. Fans reported seeing Cologne fans in the home end.

My thoughts....Oxford Street ground to an halt with thousands of German Fans causing total grid-lock as they passed through.....where's the Home Guard when you need them....get a grip Mr Mannering.

Apparently the BBC is to fight its supposed elitist bias by removing references to applicants' school and university qualifications from CV's so that there can be no bias at interview.

I await the first Director General with 2 grade D GCSE's to his name.

PS Series 3 of the excellent BBC mockumentary W1A is on BBC2 at 10pm on Mondays. I urge you all to watch it!

How come they let so many in with no tickets but police are a soft touch these days as seen so many videos showing them running away from refugees.
Perhaps those extra fans were seeking asylum as Germany is finished.

1.....The definition of economic stupidity must be importing steel from Portugal - 1,000 miles away - for work on a rail line in South Wales, when a nearby Cardiff plant produces the same metal.
And before anyone blames the EU, you can bet this wouldn't happen in Germany, France, Italy, Spain or, dare we say Portugal.
The Government needs to show some real mettle and companies need to fly the flag for national businesses instead of exporting jobs.

2.....The body of a Briton snatched by a crocodile in Sri Lanka has been found in a lagoon near where he was attacked.
Paul McClean, 24, a Financial Times, reporter, was dragged under while washing his hands. His body was found with "six or seven wounds on his right leg" in the lagoon mud. Witnesses saw him "waving his hands" as he fought to free himself from the croc's jaws.
A man at the family home in Thames Ditton, Surrey, was "too upset to talk".

3.....Ex-Footballer Clarke Carlisle was found "safe and well" last night after he was reported missing by his wife, who is pregnant with their child.
Carrie Carlisle called Police after he was last seen in Manchester at 6am. Lancs Police later tweeted that he had been found in Liverpool just before 7pm.
The former Burnley defender, 37, has a long history of depression and was injured after throwing himself in front of a lorry in December 2014.

4.....A homeless man got 28 days in jail for sneaking into a hotel pool to wash.
Kyle Morgan pretended to be staying at a Novotel and followed other guests into the bathing area.
Liverpool magistrates heard he stripped and left his clothes strewn in the changing room before entering the pool.
When the staff challenged him, Morgan, 30, said: "I'm ex-Army, come near me and I'll snap your neck".
    He admitted obtaining services dishonestly.

My comment.....I can think of many others who get away with real crime and don't get 28 days inside. He'll probably be able to keep nice and clean whilst inside.

    5.....ANOTHER LIZARD STORY.
A Council worker spotted a 5ft lizard in a lay-by as he ate his lunch.
Stunned Steve O'Hara put the iguana in his vehicle and turn the heating on to warm him up.
He said "When I first picked it up it was cold to the touch and quite rigid.
"I don't think it would have survived much longer in the cold winds and storms we had this week.
Steve who was parked up on the A702 in the Scottish Borders, took it to nearby Broughton Primary School for collection.
He added "By the time the Scottish SPCA arrived, it was getting a bit lively".
Animal rescue officer Dawn-Vale Lowdon said: "If no one comes forward for him we'll keep him in our care until we find him a suitable home".

1.....Wayne Rooney's plea to be spared community service for drink driving was rejected by a judge yesterday, who said a fine would not be a harsh enough punishment for the multi-millionaire footballer.
The 31-year old Everton star had written a personal letter to District Judge John Temperley in the hope that he would receive only a driving ban and a fine, which is limited to £5,000 for the most serious offences.
His legal team asked the judge to consider not imposing a community order because of his charitable work.
But the plea fell on deaf ears as the judge banned Rooney from driving for two years and ordered him to perform 100 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months. District Judge Temperley said he was "not convinced" that imposing a "very high level" fine would have the desired "punitive effect".
The former England Captain was breathalysed on his way home from a night out with a young women, Laura Simpson, 29. whilst his wife Coleen and three children were in Majorca.
Issuing a statement after the hearing, Rooney said that he had demonstrated an "unforgivable lack of judgement" and that his actions had been "completely wrong".

My thoughts.....It has been quoted that Rooney earns £150,000 a week at Everton....Rooney's "hope" to receive only a ban and fine is quite laughable...the most he could be fined is £5,000...which works out to roughly to 5.6 hrs pay...less than a nights sleep....We all know that the ban and community work (without pay) is not the real story here don't we ?

2.....A Farmer took revenge when land was sold from under him by chopping down 200 ancient trees, a court heard.
Keith Smith, 62, destroyed the 200 year-old hedgerow beeches in protest at a new solar energy plant. The court was told Smith had rented the farmland and woods and wanted to launch a business there. But the land was bought by an energy company to generate electricity...and Smith objected to the plans.
He and his two sons took their chainsaws to the land in Blackwood, near Caerphilly, South Wales, to cut down the trees. Prosecutor Muhammed Yaqub said: "His attitude was: 'if I can't have that land, no one else can' ". Newport magistrates court heard Smith told investigators he was given permission by solar power company Gildemeister to cut down the trees....but this was a lie. Mr Yaqub said: "There was no evidence that he was given permission to chop the trees down." Smith of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, failed to turn up for the hearing. He was charged with illegal felling and fined £105,082 and ordered to pay £6,945 in costs.
Speaking after the sentence, Jim Hepburn woodland officer at Natural Resources Wales, said: "This is a devastating case which will have a terrible impact on the local invironment.

Just as a matter of note, Rooney has also been fined 2 weeks' wages by the club - i.e. £0.3m.

yep and the Chauffer will probably be provided by Everton FC. Fact is though there is no real punishment under current law you could give him that will hurt him much is there.

What gets me is there will be a load who will be an appologist for his behaviour because of who he is. But, there but for the grace of god and luck goes another Luke who opposition supporters chant murderer at. These people never seem to learn though. I would ensure he has to do the crapiest of work they can come up with and not let him off a single minute of his 100 hours. If it clashes with a match then tough. Banning him from driving does employ somebody though I suppose to drive him around in his hire car.

i see his wages have gone to charity? then again what is that to him.. When you have people with his income .. not alot can hurt them..

Drinking and driving, well it should be zero alcohol not a pint or two as it affects everyone differently.. The law needs changing and a bigger punishment..<doh>
