Not out of choice....a bit of an occupational hazard yesterday as I seemed to be involved in a lot of the pre match/half time 'stuff'. we gave away well over 1000 tickets yesterday-great to see so many there in uniform.

Watched this game as a neutral and was right in line with the penalty incident, IMO it was never a penalty and I was astonished to see the ref produce a red card which, at the time, I assumed was for the Oxford player's theatrical simulation. Loathe to criticise referees but this poor decision (together with your strikers unfortunate miss early in the second half) resulted in a one sided and ultimately tedious match. That said I was impressed that Oxford set about you guys with some skilful controlled football. Don't read too much into your loss however although was a bit disappointed in some of your negative approach play especially when you had nothing more to lose.
Assume that was Sensible in the numpty hat and big boots walking around attempting to gee up the crowd?
Anyway best of luck for the rest of the season.

As I said I did not think it was even a foul and even if the Ref got that bit wrong his decision to produce the Red for it anyway was just off the planet. The referee ruined the game before it got started and that's not the first time to say that this season. These officials are shocking.

Derek Adams has had plenty of time to make his mind up on the penalty incident.....so is he going to protest that the referee got it wrong....and if it was a foul only a yellow was necessary....a sending off plus a penalty scored was surely a double whammy for what could on another day be viewed as the forward being booked for assimilation.
If the red card gets withdrawn what punishment does the referee get for completely ruining the match and giving Argyle a mountain to climb....of course we know the answer to that...NOWT....that's why the FL will let it stand to protect their own....a professional game controlled by amateur officials.

I have watched it quite a few times and feel at the worse Edwards was clumsy in a dangerous place, the penalty area. Yet the referee was instant with his red card, no reviewing the moment for a second or two...just an instant decision....he couldn't have red carded him any quicker if he had mowed him down with a Kalashnikov.

I have been pondering what I have written above.

I assume if Adams protests against the red card, it will be reviewed by FL Officials.....If they rescinded the red card they would be admitting that their referee made a mistake and made Argyle play 75 minutes with 10 men...and with a penalty pending possible 1-0 down, that's not going to happen is it.

So maybe challenged yellow and red cards should be reviewed by an independent body....am I right in thinking that that doesn't happen at present ? and if not why unearth not.

    PS.....We have played 239 minutes this season with 10 men......or 2.66 matches.

They don't make decisions on what might have been if the decision wasn't made plym. Not only did we get a double whammy in this game but we now have 2 games to be without a vital player on top of that.

All I can say is I have watched and watched this incident. The player runs alongside Edwards for a few paces and then turns across the front of him without any indication he is going that way. Exactly where is Edwards supposed to go in that scenario? He has a split second to respond which is unrealistic. How that can be judged a foul is beyond me because what the player created was an unavoidable incident. You could argue he brought Edwards down deliberately. Even if you think he should have the reflexes of a Cobra and you give the spot kick, there is still the question of deliberate or not. It cannot possibly be deliberate. The Referee ruined the match at that point.

It's been decided that there won't be an appeal because after the experience with Carey's sending off, the video evidence is believed to be insufficient to support the argument that it was not a penalty.

    Adams says:

We gave consideration to it but we have been unable to find video footage that is conclusive to say that he did not touch the opponent before he fell to the ground.

The only footage we have got is from behind, and it’s not enough for us to put an appeal in. But we can see it’s highly unlikely that Ryan Edwards did touch the player before he fell to the ground. If you slow the footage down you see that Ryan does not touch him with his feet. Thomas’s arm goes on top of Ryan Edwards’s arm before he falls to the ground.

“We just haven’t got the right angle to give us the footage that is beneficial. We can slow it down from behind but I don’t think that’s going to be enough.”

    Put another way, Thomas dived.

To appeal, we have to provide evidence that the referee made a clear mistake and if the evidence doesn't exist (or cant be found by today's 1pm deadline) there is absolutely no point in appealing despite what the vast majority of us might think about the 'challenge'. Each appeal costs a bit of money (£500) if unsuccessful and there is also the possibility of further sanctions if an appeal is made that has no or little chance of success. For info the appeals are heard by the FA (they deal with discipline) so it is independent of the EFL........

After post the above I was watching Sky news on the sports channel later and they were doing the Referee thing where a retired Ref looks at various decisions over the last weekend and gives his judgement. They showed the Vincent Kompany one. Now, if Edwards was a Red then Kompany should be banned for the rest of the season for his efforts. He got a yellow. It makes a mockery out of it all doesn't it.

There is a poster on pasoti called Lundan Cabbie who watches Argyle fairly frequently but is a Crystal Palace fan. Nothing wrong with that he comes from there originally. But he is or has been a Referee it seems and everytime there is a complaint about the Ref he jumps in and defends whatever decision the Ref has made. He makes continuous excuses for poor officiating all of the time no matter what it was. My point is that Referee's obviously have a fraternity and if you read his posts always know far far more than anyone who merely watches a game. It doesn't matter how long you have watched football, the Ref always knows best. Clearly total arrogance runs with the job hand in glove, 10000 people who were there haven't a clue and the only ones right are the man in the middle and Lundan Cabbie.
