Match Day Thread versus Bradford (again)

Disappointing 3-1 defeat after a promising start. The only positive is that we'd all rather have the three points we got a couple of weeks ago,

I read a piece in the paper about Everton and Southampton couple of weeks ago. I think the headline was "No club's too big to be relegated".

The article pointed out that both those two had a ratio of shots on target to total shots of well down in the mid to low 20's. Statistically, clubs that do that get relegated apparently. Achieve 40% plus and you win things. I don't know what are stats would be overall but this is today:


I know this is grist to the "we need a 25 goal a season striker" mill but I hope we know who we'll be signing in January.... Jervis has done his best today but we need at least another central striker like Taylor and maybe a conventional goal scorer too, if we can work out where he'd go in the formation. With Threlkeld back in the fold at RB and Sawyer and Taylor-Sinclair on the left, maybe that's all we need, net of any one in, one out type swaps.

 

Been reading that McCormick wasn't 100% fit...if that was the case why did we risk him to start with....sounds a bit like the Threlkeld saga....did he come back to early and then out far to long because of it.

Did we have an emergency loan problem with Mannion not being available for the Cup....was that the problem ?

 

Again, there is 'nothing to see here'. 'My understanding' is that Hull were happy for Mannion to play in the cup; but, as Luke has responded well to treatment and is 'fit' there was no need to keep Mannion-and obviously once it was confirmed that Luke was fit we wouldn't have been able to keep young Will-hence the need to have Max on the bench..

 

Been listening to Derek Adams proclaiming....That it was a really good performance and he was happy at H/T, that we played really well in the first half.
One of our best performances this season, far better than our 1-0 win here last time.

So was it ?....we didn't drop any league points yesterday...but we might miss out on a lucrative 3rd round match (we'll see at Monday's draw). It was our worst away defeat giving away 3 goals.
Will Adams be happy with similar performances in the league...content with "good performances" although losing the points.

Did we not lose the game...isn't that the most important outcome of a match....or have I got it wrong...does the F/L give us points for playing well and still losing....have I not noticed that happening.....most important of all will the players become happy losing...but it's "ok" the governor was pleased because we played well, and that's the most important thing.......

 

There is a difference between performance and result plym. You can play outstandingly and lose or you can play absolutely crap and win. Or of course you can play absolutely crap and lose. What he is saying is we played much better football than last time which was pleasing but I doubt he is saying the result was desired. If you play awful stuff then the only saving grace is the final result if it's in favour. If you are to lose then losing but giving a good account is always more forgiven by supporters.

 

So it seems we had more play and attacking chances because Bradford allowed us to......they let us have the ball more so that we had to move forward and in doing so created gaps behind our defence that had moved forward.....that's not fair....a bit sneaky to be honest......three goals seems to suggest that it worked.

 

Stuart McCall, Bradford manager, had a little chuckle over Derek Adams claims on how the game went on Saturday......he suggested that Argyle's game against Portsmouth was also seen by Adams in a different light than the majority of reports.

 

We could of been playing away to Port Vale or Yeovil in the 3rd round.

 

Been looking at the match video.....what can you say about there second goal...other than a jammy flook.....they sometimes hurt more than a genuine great goal.....you get the feeling you've upset lady luck somehow.....throw in their third where the ball squirms under Luke and it's a Bradford player on hand to poke it in.
Carey's goal got a deflection as well.
