The problem for Lovren is if you decide to follow the striker 20 yards away from your box you must win your header. Stick in line with the other defenders and let the midfield jump for those balls. In all instances he missed

I didn't see the need for Lovren to leave the defensive line to follow Lucky 30 ft further up the pitch instead should have left him to Can that far away from goal. That way he would still be in position when Lukaku did win the header and flicked on.

I cannot see us missing top 4 unless we collapse AND Chelsea go on a run. We will probably finish 3rd but 4th is good enough. We don’t have the extra FA CUP features so we should be fresher than our rivals.

 

I wouldn’t mind getting them (should they get through!) as long as Klopp and our players don’t fall for their tactics. That they were going to defend and look to control our front trio couldn’t have come as a surprise surely. We need to be prepared for a counterattacking game. I think funnily enough the absence of Pogba helped them in keeping that lead to the end.

 

Actually if I criticise Klopp it'll be that knowing he will always play a higher line and defend from front there's no way you look at Lovren vs Lukaku as a winner. . Either tell him to drop off or put VD on him from start....

It's sometimes just not smart to trust a player will be at his very best.... which even at that I wouldn't fancy Lovren matching Lukky

if chelsea fail to beat palace great. that gives us 2 games grace over them

worst case here is 4 points gap from us in 4th to chelsea in 5th.

in that case we need 7 wins to be sure.

If he'd let him go for Can but Can hadn't picked him up, Lovren would still get stick. The lad can't win. IMO, Lovren didn't do much wrong. There is no shame in losing a strength battle with Lukaku, he's a big lad. TAA showed inexperience for the first, they got a fortunate bonnet of the ball for the second.

 

We need to put clear distance between Chelsea and ourselves BEFORE we meet. We will have lots of clenched bottoms if we go into that match with the winners getting 4th.

 

Both balls were from a goal kick I'd be expecting both CBs to shout at one CMs to drop into that zone.

Sometimes it is frustrating watching us defend as it is a combination of errors not one which means everyone will see a different player to blame. For me it's Lovren and TAA

 

we played two wingers as cms. we were never dropping anyone in there.

my point is 2nd is gone with that result barring an implosion from utd.

3rd has seen initiative handed to spurs.

all we can do now is run down the games v the midtable and below sides with wins.
