No, not a thread about Don’s sense of humour, but a place where we can pay tribute to personal favourites who have departed this mortal coil.

    RIP Trevor Baylis.

A magnificent English eccentric and inventor par excellence.

Trevor did more for the poor people of Africa than any Mugabe or ANC leader. By inventing the wind up radio, which was exported to Africa by the million, he brought the magic of radio (including news and education) to millions of Africans who had no access to electricity let alone A4 batteries.

For those who are not familiar with Trevor Baylis, there is a marvellous obituary of him on the BBC Newsnight website.

Saw Ken Dodd and Billy Dainty in Torquay about forty two years ago. The way he worked an audience was a real eye opener for an aspiring actor.

RIP Sir Ken, comic genius. He could tell jokes for over 3 hours without a break, think about it.

They say the only two certainties in life are death and taxes.
For Ken it was just death.

    RIP Ken.
I'll admit his brand of comedy was not really my cup of tea, but many people loved him and that's worthy of respect.

    Lardi,
Like most comics there was (to my understanding) two Ken Dodds... one for TV with all his 'Diddy Men' stuff .... and another for his stage performances which could be far more 'Les Dawson' <ok>

I watched the "Seve" DVD a couple of days ago. I loved that man, and still miss him. Golf is my favourite sport.

RIP Ken. Like lardiman, he wasn't my favourite, but a genuine gent, and the obituaries speak of a warm person and a real professional. There's a quote out there that says Ken Dodd was the one other comedians went to see. Says an awfull lot.

An incredible mind. In the cruelest possible way the horrible illness he suffered from afforded him more opportunity to focus on his theories, because it robbed him of pretty much every other aspect of his life.
How many people in that position would give up even bothering to try to engage with the world at all, never mind work on tirelessly for decades to push back the boundaries of physics further than anybody since Einstein.
A man of limitless courage as well as genius. Free now from the kind of suffering that nobody should have to endure.

RIP Professor Hawking. A true inspiration to the whole human race.
