Well I do believe that it is now 6/7 weeks since I last cut my grass....the only thing growing of course are weeds...dandelions grow whatever the weather is doing....that's two fortnightly garden waste collections I've not bothered to put out....does that mean I'll get a refund....no I didn't think so. Thames Water are telling us not to waste water...watering flowers etc with an hose is not recommended.....haven't asked us yet to share a shower with a neighbour (already chosen which neighbour, if that happens)....On the other hand the council are suggesting that we water newly planted trees on kerbsides....will they be helping us with our water meter payments....no I didn't think so. I cannot remember any drops of the wet stuff falling this month or in June either. Difficult sleeping at nights...we have set a fan up...which has a timer, so it turns off hopefully... after we've gone to sleep...so that's handy....Whilst down Bournemouth last week at Premier Inns we had the luxury of air-conditioning in the hotel... including our bedroom...which was great.
Get an AC unit Plym.. That will keep you cool and warm in winter. Providing you get the right one. Hope fully we get a bad winter after this, its nice and quiet on the heating front which is nice, as can enjoy the sun on the beach..
My other half was chilly last night and put a cardi on. And I just saw a woman on TV saying she had no complaints about the hot weather except that people insisted on having the air con on in the office. Well, yeaahhh. What is it about women? I worked with a Norwegian girl once. She was the MD's secretary and not a good person so you had to be careful. Horrible open plan office, in central London, all glass, we didn't need to buy a microwave for the kitchen. She insisted on yanking the air con up to temperatures at which you and I would be dreaming of a nice cool swim. It wouldn't have been so bad but she wore next to nothing (with few of the benefits you might expect from that). Loose fitting cotton shorts which I expect she called "culottes", but which were better suited to a seaside resort, and strappy tops. No wonder she wasn't hot..... but for those of us that were actually dressed it was like a sauna.
Todays maximum was 95F (or in new money 35C).....they're promising us a possible 100F or 37.5C tomorrow. Greenhouse in the shade was 115F mid-afternoon.......and the room thermostat is hard up against the maximum temperature of 30C.....good job it isn't a needle because it would have been bent by now.
Plym, just the right weather for Kayaking .. its a bit of breeze on the sea, but its hot and can just drop into the sea at any moment once we built up a sweat.. Dont worry as once the rain comes it wont stop. Could do with another 6 weeks of this and then a hard winter,,
I've just sat in a microwave on wheels for over 7 hours today. I was expecting it to rain at any point all the way back to Plymouth. We had about 5 minutes worth just as we got to Marshmills roundabout. Just read your Norwegian post above notdistant. It's mostly women in general who turn the temperature up as high as they can get it. I don't like it too hot but used to get fed up with the whinging all day long so just let them get on with it. Maximum heat for hours on end and then they drank shed loads of tea because they "felt dry". The central heating used to kill my eyes after a few hours.
4.53pm....7minutes earlier than BBC weather for Orpington stated....thunder, lightening and torrential rain....cascading over the gutters.....30 minutes later all dried up and temperature plummeted to only 28C (82F in real money).
I imagine most of the UK does not have A/C.so people have to suffer as i did in the 60/70's. Over here it's the opposite most everyone has Air. Our weather is hot right now as it is most summers. Don't worry our monsoon will happen soon.
Thing is BC, the weather is only hot for an extended period here about once every decade. Why would anyone pay out a shed load of cash to put something in that is switched off more than it's switched on. I never take any advice from Joe as he just wants us all to buy something he can install. 10pm now and I'm still waiting for the bleddy wet stuff.
Air conditioning not generally required in the UK, as you know BC.....had my first taste of it out in Aden in the early 1960's....problems happened when a sand storm was forecasted and we had to turn it off because it would suck the sand in....so window and door closed....result was like sitting in a tin can frying.....surge in temperature just before sand storm arrived, up to 110/120F....best place was in the showers.

Pleasant sunny day...quite breezy.....68F.....nice comfortable walk through High Elms Country Park, nice to get some UK weather for a change. Last night was cloudy....first time for ages....so no "Blood Moon" viewing around here...typical.
I'm still waiting for this bleddy downpour to happen here. Looks like rain, loads of clouds and blowing a bit but it seems reluctant to let go over Plymouth. All we have had is a couple of very small showers. My garden needs a downpour for at least an hour or two.
Looking at Web Cam 2 sensible..... you seem to have had reasonable rain over night by the look of those ponds developing down the Barn Park End.
Wet, blustery and dingy this morning, here in NW Kent.....hints that the grass might be waking up......after go down the pawnbrokers during the week and get my lawnmower out of hock.
I think my lawn is now officially dead. I last cut it 4 weeks ago and nothing has grown since. It is the colour of hay even if it isn't long enough to be and to walk on it without something on your feet is to walk on a bed of needles. The only thing not to have any trouble with it is the bleddy cats who still manage to walk across it and crap in my flower beds. It is still far too bleddy hot and I'm getting a bit fed up with it now. Long(ish) range forecast said it was going to get hotter after the weekend again. I just need it to rain.
Thousands of flying ants have invaded us (9.30pm)....Mrs Plym has been working in the garden...so the security lights have come on....attracting these fly ants....they've come into the kitchen and there all over the illuminated ceiling.....I'm killing them like I'm fighting in the coliseum. PS.....Swept the kitchen floor.....pile of dead ants in the corner.
