Burke doing the first presser of the season with Adkins, but despite the title, there's not really any team news...

    Adkins on the season starting

I’m really looking forward to it, we’ve had a good pre-season. I’d still like to add to the players we’ve got. The academy players have stepped up, the attitude, the behaviors, they are a credit to the academy. They are a young hungry, honest group of players.

    Adkins on the Championship

We go into a demanding Championship, it was challenging last season, there’s been a change around and from our point of view there needs to be sustainability and we need to be competitive. We need to be together and this season will be competitive.

There will be lots of expectation there. There’s a change and there has to be a transformation. We are young and hungry and we want to club to do well.

    Adkins on pre-season

There’s been a good coming together with the players and there’s a lot of people working hard to come together. The commercial department and the community department for two. It’s a transitional period now where there will be some ups and downs.

We have a good collaboration with Hull Uni and we have a good pre-season programme we know that works. Some results might go against you and that could knock the spirit but I we stay together we go a long way.

    Adkins on the transfer window

We need to add to the players we’ve got. We need to make the signings we need. We are working hard behind the scenes and there are offers on the table for three or four players. We haven’t had a response to the bids that are in. The group of players we do have need to improve as well. What is the end goal? We want to get back to the Premier League? Of course we do.

The head discusses the expectations at the club

It’s going to a big ask even the pundits have us in the bottom three. Can we aim for the sustainability of the football club? Can we make young supports want to come? We have to look at the dynamic new way of growing.

The supporters want to see passion and they want to see players having a go. We want to engage with supporters.

As it stands at the moment the young players are in the squad. I’m trying to find players who are robust enough to go 40 games a season and the young players they need time. I’ve played players who were 17 in the Premier League but you need time.

Adkins discusses Markus Henriksen being named captain

Michael has moved on and he did ever so well at a very important stage in the club’s history. It was a new start and it’s a new journey we are on. Through the summer, we want to have a leadership group and he leads by example every day on the training ground. He eats properly and lives properly to get the best out of him. They are self-employed businessmen and they have to extract every ounce of potential. Markus has undoubted ability, he’s at a good age.

He’s a good player, I think it’s important that you speak to people. We all have faults and we all have things we can improve on. Be good at what you’re good at. Give him good communication and how you live your values every day turns into your performance. We all have our favourites, as long as you are honest and up front.

    Adkins on Oliver Norwood

Hes a good player, he’s a good age, he can run all day long and he has a fantastic character.

    Transfer talk from Adkins

There was a lot of things that you try and keep players coming in. I have to control my frustrations because it’s not going to get us anywhere. I need to improve the players we’ve got. There’s been youngsters come through and they’ve seized chances. It’s great to see them around the group and for me character is the most important thing. We’re very conscious of their development. We’ll have to see and maybe I’m talking to players today.

    Reece Burke...

Pre-season has been pretty hard to be honest, it’s been intense.

When I met the boys, I tried to chat to them all and to be fair they are all good here. I had to sing in Portugal, I sang a song by Drake. It went down well, I tried to get them to sing along but they weren’t having it.

Burke on getting out of West Ham

I always knew West Ham were going to go for it this season and I realised when I was away that I wasn’t going to get a look in. I picked up the phone to my agent that I said I need to get out of here. I felt at that point a permanent move would do me better and so far, so good.

It’s different to London, but I’ve been on loan a few times, I’ve lived up north and I can’t get away from it. It’s not great living in a hotel but I have somewhere sorted and hopefully I will settle in.

    Burke on living up north

The people are more friendly up here, in London it’s different. It’s nothing I’ve not had to deal with and it’s not a problem, my family come up most weekend to support me as well.

My dad has come up north many times. He’s come to pretty much every game apart from Portugal. I signed for West Ham when I was nine years old, it was a difficult decision for me to make because I’ve been there for so long.

Burke on joining Hull and expectations

I’ve been on loan before but you get treated as a loan player there. I’m here now though and it’s nice to have a feeling of being loved.

I’d like to see Hull push on, that would be a big achievement for us. We have a young team but if you look at the quality we have got we’ve got a good team. Everyone wants to interact with other.

Chelsea and Spurs both now in for him, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't even in the team.

Keep forgetting the season starts this weekend.

That summer went bloody quick, though the World Cup helped immensely.

Hull City boss Nigel Adkins has hinted that neither Jackson Irvine nor Kamil Grosicki will be hurried back for the season opener against Aston Villa on Monday night.

Irvine and Grosicki are back in training with the Tigers following their World Cup exploits this summer but both have encountered difficult times during pre-season.

Grosicki’s delayed return due to “personal issues” effectively dashed any hopes of featuring against Villa after only resuming fitness work seven days before the curtain raiser, while a sickness bug has also scuppered Irvine’s chances of sharpening up in time.

I like Adkins but his comments when written down look like a bad Google translation. Half of it isn't even full sentences.

Gotta love Adkins. I've lost count how many times in recent interviews he's mentioned needing new players.... bless him.

Grosicki's personal issues are the deep melancholia that no-one actually wants him

Does Burke think he’s been transferred to Lapland or summut?

Someone buy that boy a woolly muffler.

The 26th of May doesn’t seem all that long ago when we were ninety minutes away from returning to the Premier League. However, that wasn’t to be and now it all starts again. The long hard slog in Aston Villa’s quest to regain there Premier League status with a trip to Hull.

Since that disappointing day, we have heard many conflicting reports and the club has undergone a serious rebuilding process with the lowest time being when it was reported we were close to administration and losing all our star players o now being owned by the third richest owners in the country.

    THE OPPOSITION

Our opening day opponents Hull has undergone some drastic changes as well in the offseason. The majority of these changes have come in the transfer window. The biggest loss to Hull’s squad is the departure of striker Abel Hernandez who left the club for free after the expiry of his contract and joined CSKA Moscow. The Uruguayan international spent most of last season out injured but returned late on to finish the season with an impressive 8 goals in 688 minutes in the league.

Hull will have to replace his prolific goal scoring ability somehow. However, they survived nearly the whole season without the 27-year old last campaign and managed to finish the season in 18th place but were the 4th highest goal scorers in the league with 70. Their goal scoring ability was highlighted in the final weeks of the season where they entertained fans in a thrilling 5-5 draw with Bristol City.

Where Hull let themselves down was in defence. When you consider their high goal return you would expect them to have finished higher up the league, that is until you look at there defensive woes. Hull finished the season conceding a staggering 70 goals giving them the second most porous defence in the league, excluding the three relegated teams.

Hull have attempted to rectify this issue by bringing in reinforcements in that area. The promising young centre-back, Reece Burke, who its believed we were interested in, was bought in to replace the departing captain, Michael Dawson. As well as this, the Tigers have also landed former Villa right-back, Eric Lichaj from Nottingham Forest where he was a fan favourite making 173 appearances. He will add much-needed experience and quality to the Hull backline.

Hull have also strengthened their defence with the singing of Jordy de Wijs from PSV Eindhoven. The former Dutch U21 international spent last year on loan at Excelsior in the Eredivisie where he made a combined 3.2 tackles and interceptions on average per game. To put this into perspective, James Chester made 2.7 last season so the stats would indicate he is a quality defender.

Hull will be looking to there top scorer last season 21-year old Jarrod Bowen to get the large share of the goals after he netted an impressive 14 times last season from attacking midfield. Keeping him quiet and preventing him from getting forward will be a priority for Villa’s midfield and defence.

Hull haven’t had the best preseason with a 4-1 loss to Portuguese outfit Braga which they followed up with a 1-0 loss to League One Rochdale. However, they will be impressed with the 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

    TEAM NEWS

Jonathan Kodjia is fit and available to play on Monday night. The striker missed the final pre-season game against Dresden and some feared the worse be he should be fine.

Villa will be very light up top though with Keenan Davis, Scott Hogan and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy all unavailable through injuries they have been carrying since last season.

    THE BIG MATCH

This game opened the 2017/18 season for both teams at Villa Park ending in a 1-1 draw after an opening goal from Gabby Agbonlahor. The reverse fixture at the KCOM Stadium also ended in a stalemate however, it ended 0-0. However, Steve Bruce and his men will be hoping for a better result this time around.

It will be interesting to see whether Bruce sticks with the 4-1-4-1 formation which he used for the vast majority of last season or opts to use one of the formations he has trialled during pre-season like a 3-5-2, 4-4-2 or the 4-4-1-1 he used against Dresden.

Unless things change between the time of me writing this and the Hull game, I would opt against playing a three at the back formation due to the lack of centre backs with the first-team experience at the club. As a result of this, I would look to play the 4-1-4-1 that Bruce deployed last season with Birkir Bjarnason playing in holding role due to his mobility over Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan to deal with Jarrod Bowen.

Since taking over at Hull, manager Nigel Adkins has favoured a 4-2-3-1. If Jack Grealish is still a Villa player come the opening day, expect him to get a hard time from the two deep-lying midfielders that Adkins will have almost certainly instructed them to try and nullify his attacking threat and flair.

What do you reckon the attendance will be on Monday???
The club are point blank refusing to allow any lapsed members back without paying three months in advance, the whole new match card marlarkey, plus being on TV makes going to the stadium a pain........
And after such a thrilling World Cup domestic football is a bit...meh

Away games only again for me, fingers crossed a few more join me this year.

I have been impressed with how we performed under Adkins towards the end at the beginning we played aimless hoof ball but he did improve us. However... His press conferences are dire, his answers don't make any sense whatsoever and he just repeats the same Jibberish.

O I miss Browny. If anyone else does please watch the video of him singing Elvis during an interview that he did this week. What a hero.
