Any players out there? I've just started playing after decades away from the game. One of the benefits of the game is that you can switch your mobile off for a few hours and enjoy some "me time"...that itself is pretty good for getting away from some of the stresses of life, see the mental health thread. Anyway, I played yesterday, I've always been able to hit my drive a long way and when it goes straight it looks so good. Yesterday, the par 4 second, 420 yards, big drive, an eight iron to the green, sunk a twenty footer for a birdie. That's all the encouragement you need. Does anyone play?

I play very irregularly. I enjoy the rare good shots and contemplate suicide over the terrible ones (which are more common than a pennywell resident)

Yes, such is the game <grr> After having birdied the par 4 second during yesterday's play, I had another bash at it later on. Same result getting on the green in two, then three putted for a bogey <grr>

I'm gonna try to play every week. And practice, practice, practice. I think of it as a challenge between me and the course...and sometimes myself.

Been using the driving range at Wallsend and played the course a couple of times. I might join next year.

I tried a few times - even had lessons - but boy did I suck! (Please not in the ACS way).

I like the idea of a gentle stroll over nice land, maybe I should be a caddy <laugh>

I must say though, after a good few hours on the course yesterday, I agitated an old ligament strain in my left foot. And my missus is now onto me...'maybe you shouldn't play anymore then?' and that old chestnut, 'You've got time to play golf but...' Women <laugh>

Aye I play a fair bit. Jimi on here is golf coach or at least was I think?

I got my handicap under 10 as a youngun. I took it back up when I was about 30 and whittled it back down to the low teens. I was playing 3 times a week though and popping to the range. So it came down in a very short space of time. Its one of those things where there is no substitute for playing time. I'd love to play a lot more but just can't find the time.

I have played a bit of late and gone ok. Played Whickham which I found tough, high premium on driving and knowing the course. If I played again I'd take more 3 woods and irons off the tee. I hit a long ball, but the problem with that is if you get off line the punishment tends to be more severe!! I play Bedlington and Rothbury most of the time although Bedlington is getting ridiculous with numbers on course. Easily one of the better local courses but its a long round at present. I played Bellingham the other week and that was pretty good. Some really nice par 3's, though that may be because I played them really well and won prizes <laugh>

Played any number of courses and only a few I didn't like. Longhirst wasn't for me but that was some time ago. Alnwick I didn't rate at all. I've always like Linden Hall when its not saturated. I think the best shot I ever hit was at Percy Wood. A monster 3 wood off the fairway to about 5ft on a par 5. Sank the eagle too. I have access to Bamburgh, Arcot Hall, Rockliffe Hall and Wynard Hall at present through corporate links. I've only played Arcot so far and enjoyed it. I'm told Rockliffe Hall is a serious test but absolutely belting. I will get round them all at some stage as they are free to me, but I wouldn't want to go hack up their championship course

I think if you can play a bit you've got to be competitive. For me, I'm slowing my game right down, thinking about it, imagining the shot I want to play. Most importantly, it's like in cricket...dont give your wicket away...in golf, be so miserly with every shot you take.

I'm a member at Castle Eden if anyone's played there? Play every weekend and once during the week. Started the year off 14 and finished up on 16.
Most of my round this year have been high 80's low 90's, but in between I hit a 77.
My putting is horrendous though <doh>

I think most of us would take a 77 mate <applause> When pro golfers miss a three footer then I realise it can be hard.
