Have we dodged a bullet here? Shocking footage on Sky Sports of incident of Mings full face stamp on Reading's Oliveira on Saturday, on his Villa debut. Oliveira has now undergone surgery for his facial injuries. Incredible that Referee Geoff Eltringham did not punish Mings at the time, he looks to be right there in front of the incident, and the FA are waiting to see his report before deciding whether to take any action. Mings has previous, he was handed a retrospective five-game ban for stamping on the head of Zlatan Ibrahimovic while playing for Bournemouth against Manchester United in 2017. On social media Bournemouth fans also mention that in the past with them he also put someone else out for 8 months in a pre-season, their opinion being that he is "not wired correctly in the head" and if not injured is suspended. please log in to view this image
He's apologised, but will probably get another retrospective ban, possibly longer than the first, it certainly looked deliberate...
This will / should open up the debate about stud/blade design of modern boots! Bring back 4 at the front, 2 at the back!!
The law in the US is "three strikes and your out"...i.e a long jail term. With Mings history the FA should ban him from the game. He is a menace. Oliveira was fortunate he did not lose an eye/his sight. Two inches lower and he could have been blinded. Inexcusable!!!
I agree entirely. I think bladed studs contribute to injuries to knees and ankles of players wearing them as well.
I was there too - Batman, Superman, Hopalong Cassidy all great but Flash Gordon was always my favourite. Running home with our macs buttoned around our necks to make capes. Ace!
