You can't give city that much of a lead and expect to make it up v the lesser sides though.

I'm fairly sure that by the end the top 6 table and over all table won't be far off each other. It'll be close between the 3rd to 6th place teams as there is little between them but city have absolutely hammered the life out of the other top 6 teams really. the only blot is losing to Chelsea 2-0 before Christmas (a shocker)

Its this simple. IF LFC and city have 8 of their 10 games done and spurs have only 6 of them then that means lfc and city have 2 "easier" games than arsenal and Chelsea to play. thus its reasonable to assume that there could be a further 3or even 4 point swing to one of us over spurs.

Spurs talked big before burnley. Poch then said they were out of it after result. Almost like they needed to psyche themselves up for it then flopped.

Just rememebr they will have great momentum but when the CL really gets going the QF and SF's are lost together and add in FA cup QF and likely SF they will be two games a week for all of april and parts of march and may.

We could just as easily have that issue in CL (I hope) but we just have to hope that we can get an edge on them somewhere and hold it.

We had it and threw it away. Now the job is to get it back.

Its a who blinks first deal but thats not to say there won't be several blinks.. its just i think deep down we all know if we blink first we are likely to just fall off.

In reality, Spurs should have been out of the equation months ago.

The fact that they are back and only 6 points behind is pretty disgraceful on our part.

    my predictions.

I tried to be optimistic even though as I click on our results i said nah, we won't but we should

I thought city would have it won by miles and then this popped up. I don't quire know how city ended up on only 90.

you'll note that following all the manc injuries and even me putting arsenal down as losing or drawing away games I've managed to put mancs 5th.

Clearly i'm in a hell of an optimistic mood this afternoon <yikes>

Managers always say they're out of it, etc. To take the pressure off.

Spurs maybe only have a 1 in 10 chance of winning, but they're not out of it yet. If I were a fan of theirs I'd still have my fingers crossed.

If they continue to close at the rate they did the last 5 or 6 weeks they would overtake us by seasons end... They won't do that... But if they did, they could win.

We all do. <ok>. Very much so.

I doubt we finish in top 2 next year, so a win in super important this year. Never know when we get such a good opportunity again.

Guesstimating results for the last 11 games is a total and utter waste of time

the betting odds say the bookies think they've no chance.

BTW just cos they'd over take us doesn't mean theys do for city too.

Anyway I thought i was quite fair to them in the predictor, they ended up on 87 points which is massive when i ran through each match. Given I gave city 90 apparently.

that says to me i was giving spurs a lot and took a bit off city which was probably wishful thinking... and STILL spurs were not ahead.

Betting odds don't mean real chance to win though. Nor does it even mean who the bookies think will win.

It's a maths equation set up so that the bookies make money no matter who wins.

If Spurs odds are longer it means fewer people are betting on them, which, in part is down to size of fan base.

If us and Spurs had the same chance of winning the league bookies would give Spurs longer odds... We have more fans and thus more people likely to drop optimistic bets.

We could have an identical squad, points and set up to Bournemouth and get 4/1 odds while they got 30/1 odds.

That said, yes, Spurs winning requires both us AND City to have a bad end-season. Which isn't highly likely but still very possible.

no they just mean the bookies are taking very little free money and are trying to make it attractive to fools to bet on.

Its not just fan base its offering something thats attractive to the average punter.

If you are a utd fan for example, nothing is stopping you lumping a tenner on spurs if you think that they will catch the small points total they are behind now. They have no cups to worry about.

IMO the size of the odds just tells me nobody beleives in them.

Of course there's huge money already on city and LFC and of course the bookies are covering themselves for risk there.

bookies odds are there to attract moeny but they are also a barometer. Not just of popularity.

I'd say if bookies are offering the leading side at more than evens it really says cmon LFC fans give me your money you gullible fools.

People don't just bet on team loyalties... a lot of guys do yes and the bookies love them. For every one Leicester fan at 5000/1 there was 100000 others betting differently covering him.

If course people bet on teams other than their own... But I would bet if we could see the betting history of everyone on this forum for the last 10 years we would see more bets placed on Liverpool than other teams.

Fans tend to be overly optimistic of their own team's success and disrepresentially bet on them. Naturally they also vet on rivals from time to time... But I bet the average Liverpool fan has placed more bets on Liverpool over the years than the average Man Utd fan has.
