    Starter for 10 no conferring...............

With the probability of leaving the EU before the start of the new football season where, with current FIFA rules would that leave a number of foreign players who play in the lower leagues of the UK. For example there is a clamour to sign Lameiras going on right now. But, if we did sign him and we left the EU would he be allowed to remain. Not on EU rules or agreements but on FIFA rules that you can only sign foreign players who are first choices for their National sides or have achieved some many caps. Remember the Japanese player being touted for us who we couldn't sign for that reason previously. Carey who hails from Republic of Ireland would be another in that category. Songo another perhaps. Bleddy Breit is a nuisance isn't it in more ways than one. Not sure above is going to be the case of course but it is theoretically possible.

You have completely missed the point Plym. This is NOT an EU rule it is a FIFA rule. The EU was allowed to sign anyone because there was freedom of movement of all EU citizens and no work permits were required for anyone in the EU region. However, if we aren't in the EU then the freedom bit does not apply to the UK. It is therefore logical that we revert to the International caps rule like the rest of the non EU countries.

So we will revert to UK players who actually play first team football for a change.

I remember the clamour to get Lameiras to sign on recently. What if we had for a 2/3 year deal? Where would we stand then if we had to revert to FIFA rule. Carey and Lameiras are considered must haves yet you can dismiss them that easily and just "revert to UK players". I bet there would be an outcry around the country if half the teams lost half of their players to this even though they would have voted for it. I didn't make the point for it to be an Exit EU comment though and I am sort of curious to see what happens in practice with foreign players. Prem won't be inconvenienced because pretty much all of their's are Internationals anyway.

Players from outside the EU would surely not be effected from playing for UK clubs ?...and it would be counter productive if in European competitions the EU stuck their evermore meddling fingers in and made more and more odious rules.....But who would not be surprised if Germany and France try to stick their tuppence worth into any decision making.

As far as I understand it, EU citizens who've lived in the UK for 5 years have an unlimited right to remain.

If you've been here for more than 2 years but less than 5, you must apply and will usually be accepted.

I assume to avoid wading into a putrid swamp, FIFA won't seek to eject players already deemed settled by the UK government.

It may well be a different story for future recruits - and indeed for workers in real world jobs.

Raises interesting questions for young bucks who can't get a game at Premier League clubs considering whether they'd be better in Germany.... I'd jump now.

Oh PS there's going to be an arbitrary earnings limit that defines a "low paid" worker who won't be allowed in to do unimportant jobs like caring for elderly people or working in the NHS.

It's £30k pa so I doubt many footballers will be caught in that particular net.

Having been trawling through the 100's of photos on GoS showing us how the new stand etc development is going, I notice with interested
this morning that Joe's old hunting ground Tottenham Hotspurs are testing out their new stadium before their first league match against Crystal Palace soon.

    Just a few facts......

1.....17,500 seats in the 34 metre high, single tier South Stand, the largest in Britain, which is designed to produce a wall of sound.

2.....£15,000 the price of the most expensive season ticket, the benefits of which includes a heated seat and use of a restaurant run by Michelin-starred chef Chris Galvin.

3.....10,000 pints per minute can be poured from the stadium's bars, which include...The Goal Line...which at 65 metres is reputedly the longest bar in Europe.

4.....62,062 stadium's capacity, making it the second-biggest in the English game behind only Old Trafford.

5.....£100 million forecast of annual match-day revenue, more than twice what Spurs earned at the old White Hart Lane (£45.3m) and a quarter more than their first season at Wembley (£75.5m).

6.....£20 million annual cost of naming rights, for which Chairman Daniel Levy is yet to find a partner.

7.....The new ground overlaps the old White Hart Lane ground and the old centre spot is marked on the marble flooring.

Now getting back to the new Home Park development.....humm... maybe not.....but remember it is still only a game between eleven players on each side... and if a Spurs player gets kick in the shin it will still hurt just as much as an Argyle players shin.....what happens after that might vary a bit.

When I retired 15 years ago today....as a highly skilled Instrument Technician (with 50 years experience) I never remotely came near to earning that sought of money.

Inflation over that period is around 40%, so just over £20k would have been the bench mark then!

You are still missing the point here plym in your fhaste to slag off Europe in general. The current bench mark for players from outside the EU is they have to be International players for their respective national teams. Currently all EUs nationals are deemed to be members of which ever EU country they settle in. Therefore the Internation thing does not apply. However when we are no longer members of the EU then we are back to the old rules of International Caps and that is FIFA rules not the EU. Germany don't matter one way or another.

Of course France and Germany use the influence as two large, rich countries, whether it is in the EU or football.

The difference post Brexit is that another large, rich country which stands up for national independence and difference within a partnership of nations will longer have a say in the EU. That's us, that is.

Yes you are correct that this all to do with FIFA. The implications for football because of BREXIT are not yet understood (manly because no one knows what is happening) but it is a fair assumption that all foreign (including current EU citizens) would have to pass the FIFA point scoring assessment. However , I guess that It is highly likely that there will be some transitional arrangements and I know that the football authorities have had lots of discussions about the impact of Brexit, but as I said no one will know until those in Parliament actually make a decision. Cant see that happening anytime soon.

Doesn't yours work on a stand still basis BC? You only get rises if you actually live in the Country or something or so I've always thought. Mind you out of my couple of pound rise per week this year I have to pay £8 per month more in Council Tax, £2.40 per month extra in Tax. My electric tariff is about to go up also by what looks like around £10 per month. Without any other rise taken into account I think I'm probably at least £10 to £15 per month worse off before I start.

When I first started with the Council in late 1979 the extra payment of 25p per week was the same then as it is now.

I checked this 25p hand-out....and was told it was first done 25 years back....and no Government has increased it or cancelled it since.
