With Newcastle 10,000 down against Fulham and the Mackems having a ton of empty seats against Chelsea, was wondering what will happen next with attendances locally.

Are the reasons the same for both clubs?

My thoughts are Newcastle will level out at 46,000 as really the waiting to see what happened in the transfer window before fans return is over and more will return.
Bad news I fear at Sunderland where the home form/bizarre goings on with Gyan etc seriously risks alienating more fans and I see 38,000 being an average.

Why have you mentioned 'Tees' when you havent mentioned the Smoggies, but you have mentioned our beloved Wearside friends?

Both SAFC and NUFC have fantastic support, the likes of which the majority of other clubs in England would kill for.

THE massive problem is the constant shafting from their respective clubs.

There's been a lot made of attendances in the last game and to be honest i don't see what the big deal is
Beatski made a comment in another thread (cant be asked to find it now) pointing out that there 2 large music festivals on that weekend and it was pretty much as far away from Pay day as it could be. Give it at least a few more weeks before judging or predicting anything

Perhaps a few fans feel a little betrayed by their respective clubs, the dangled carrot, followed by the let down, season after season, eventually the penny drops.

I think that, on Wearside, it's the combination of two main factors:

    1. The baffling transfer events since Bent exited in January; no like for like replacement - where has the money gone? Now we have Gyan's sudden exit & again nobody to take his place.

    2. More importantly, the current economic climate. Yesterday's match ticket for Chelsea cost me £35! Despite Mr Quinn's comments (by the way this is not a direct criticism of our chairman, who's done so much for the club) this is an awful lot of money to watch a football match. Add, to the ticket cost, food & drink & we're talking £60 for an afternoon out. Luckily, I am working at the moment but I still feel that this is an eyewatering sum of money.

Falling attendances are a problem at all levels of the game in this country. There aren't many sides that sell out on a regular basis. There were empty seats at Man City yesterday and look at the squad the have and the football they're playing at the moment.

Obviously in our case, the management of the club is one factor. But of equal importance is purely the financial cost of attending a match. You're looking at about £25/30 upwards for a category C game, for a lot of people that's too much to shell out on 90 mins on a Saturday afternoon. If you go to a category A game you're looking at £40/£50 upwards for one person. This is the case at every club. I don't understand why clubs don't lower their prices, sell more tickets as a result, and get better support. Must be pretty **** playing for Wigan, Bolton etc in front of half empty stadiums. People say it's because factors such as rugby league etc in those areas, but if tickets were £15 or so a pop they would sell a hell of a lot more.

<ok> Welcome to the boards.....1st post if im not wrong.

Anyway, £60 for a day, is hugely expensive. And I can understand why it'd be a factor in fans not turning up. I personally wouldnt wanna spend £60 on a day, to see my team play poorly, against another team, who even though they're one of the 'big dogs' play poor football.

I imagine alot of your ST holders will have been there yesterday, but to people who dont have ST's. I can totally understand why they wouldnt wanna waste their money. May aswell save up for a game against Villa, and see a probable better performance and a win.

I was under the impression that ticket sales only brought in a small amount of revenue, so I totally agree.

And as for Man City not selling out, can you actually not see either of us not selling out week in week out, if we had that sort of riches/players etc.

I wouldnt take to much from the fulham attendance, it was the end of summer so people were away, and it was also the Leeds/Reading festival weekend which alot of Newcastle fans attend.

Ignoring the whys of the Fulham game, attendances are dropping across the premiership, including Newcastle and Sunderland. Money is a major factor, followed by getting sick of watching mercenary prima donnas sell us out on a regular basis.
A lot of the lads I work with from both the local camps have given up season tickets to watch Gateshead/Blyth/Darlington for some 'honest' football. Got to say I'm tempted to follow them.

  14. Two home games and people are making ****ing predictions on our overall attendance average... <doh>

We don't get big attendances early in the season, it gradually increases as around August and September people are still buying their season tickets and coming from their holidays.

We averaged just under 48k last season, why should it fall 2k in avg when we could improve on our position last year?

There has never been an occasion in the Premier League where the Reebok Stadium has been half of the official capacity of the ground.

Hate being stereotyped for the wrong things, sorry.

With the attendances atm with your clubs, you read day in day out, where ****s decide to say 'the only way you can get to the owners is by not giving them the money by not going to the matches'...

    Maybe they actually listened.

If we had Man city's team we would both would be getting 60,000 every home game if we had the stadiums big enough!.
