With the Mail stating as such, thought it time to start a new thread. As happy as we can be under trying times. QPR close to installing Warburton as manager By David McIntyre 06/05/2019 Embed from Getty Images QPR look set to install Mark Warburton as manager. The former Brentford boss, 56, is in line for a return to west London after being offered the chance to take over at Loftus Road. Warburton wants the job and his appointment could be confirmed in the next 48 hours. Rangers sacked Steve McClaren last month, with Warburton identified as one of four leading candidates to take over along with Tim Sherwood, Gary Rowett and Michael Appleton. Warburton was a coach and sporting director at Brentford before taking over as manager in 2013. He led the Bees to promotion later that season and the Championship play-offs the following year. He is credited with much of Brentford’s success in the scouting and development of players. That and his background as a youth coach made him an obvious strong contender for the QPR job given the club’s difficult financial position.
I don't think even the most optimistic fan expects us to be promotion contenders any time soon - survival in the Championship will be a feat as it is!
Seriously, why not give it a few weeks into the close season to see who else comes onto the market now? I can understand the desire to start preparations for the next season, but isn’t the first thing that happens that all the players sod off to sunnier climes for an ill-deserved rest straight after the last match? We have no idea who’ll be given their cards or will fall on their sword elsewhere. There might be someone more exciting than Mark ‘Crusty’ Warburton. We’ve just tried a failed Nottingham Forest manager and look where that got us.
That is a daft idea Uber. We need someone in now ( really before now). We have really big decision to make this week. Which of the out of contract players to offer an extension too ( I believe all the major players have a year add on clause in their contracts). Which out of contact players from other clubs to move towards...they become free in June Who to sell ( mind you I think SLF does a lot of this) ... And who to buy from the little money we get from selling Freeman and one of the goalies And who exactly do you want from the managers who will be released....Pulis...or yes perhaps everyone is waiting for Colin but a) he may not be released b) he may not want to come back c) he will be so so expensive Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
If he is, he will have my full support and just have to hope he does a Brentford rather than a Forest. It is tricky. He is out of work and no doubt, like the rest of us, needs some funds to maintain his lifestyle. I hope he has not taken the job just for the money thinking we are doomed but he may as well get some dosh for himself. I can only hope there is a bigger, better and more noble planned reason for him taking the job. COYRss!
But surely the 2 who should be best able to make those decisions on our current players are Les and Eustace, Les should have the overall plan on what type of players fit the plan for the coming season(s), and Eustace the hands on knowledge from working with the players. Ramsey will have input as well I expect. I am happy Eustace is staying, but would prefer to see him as the Manager. Warburton looks to be better qualified as a DOF which does make me wonder if this appointment, plus Eustace staying as Assistant, if it all happens, would be a Board decision over LF's head, with the plan being to move Les out, replace him with Warburton and move Eustace up to Manager/Head Coach. Or maybe not, but then why do we need Les, Warburton and Eustace, +++++++++?
Who knows if it'll work with Warburton or not, but in terms of the club brief, he fits the bill. He understands there isn't much of a budget, will have to develop our young talent, and will presumably add some experience from the Luke Freeman sale and other notable released players. I for one, am happy we've at least got a clear strategy of how we're approaching things. Is it ideal? Absolutely not, but at least we're on the road to being sustainable. It's a crucial transfer window for the club, if we don't get this right then we'll be red hot favourites for relegation. We're in dire need of some defenders, a CF and an experienced holding midfielder so we can free up Scowen to play more box to box.
It seens to be true as also Dave McIntyre is mentioning it on twitter, and he is rarely wrong on such matters. I think that under our current circumantances it is a good choice. I look forward to welcoming him in-board and sincerely wish him every success.
If he can move the club forward as much as he moved Brentford forward then this could be a good appointment...Rangers was a tough gig and I wouldn't judge him on that time given the financial problems they had. His time at Forest is worrying though as he didn't do well there. All we can do is get behind him, cheer him on as much as we can and hope for the best. Same as had been done for the last 18 managers since 2006.
Whilst I do daft in my sleep, Vern, I beg to differ. I have no particular issue with Warburton. I am no advocate of Pulis. I'd have Colin back like a shot. Other candidates? No idea, that's why I'd wait a couple of weeks to see who becomes available. Its only May after all. As has already been pointed out, Ferdinand is supposed to make the contract decisions and Eustace can take care of things a while longer anyway. There's rarely any transfer activity until August too, assuming we can afford more than the cost of a portion of chips. Sent from my FiN-G3R-TiPs using Ak3yb0ard
We need a manage now We need a manager who Knows the league & the player market Has had some success Scouts well Works on a budget Wants to work in London Is at the cheap end of the market and keen Isn't Tim Sherwood What's not to like?
Also someone that wants to prove he can still cut the mustard after a couple of bad jobs Rangers and Florist. When he started at Brentford, they had nothing and he helped lay the foundations to where they are now. Hopefully he can motivate and organise our team and bring in one or two freebies in the summer.
If confirmed I will do my best to remember the great job he did at Brentford. He’s a method manager rather than a charisma manager. We can only hope that the players staying and any ones who come in recognise that they are going nowhere or backwards fast and buy into the method, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Making the move now is smart. He gets to weigh in on end of season decisions and make his plan for the next. A new manager with proven success developing young players? What is not to like?
Out of a job for over a year, his two most recent appointments being failures? McClaren had proven success developing young players as well.
