How long are you willing to give him? Another season like this? Spurs did not buy a single player in at least 2 windows, doubt they will do that again... So next season is not going to be any better.. You have Wolves (in their second season) and a resurgent'ish Everton, I reckon with Emery still at the top and his baffling line up and subs, we might even slide further down the table!
We've taken 4 points from Everton, Watford, Palace, Wolves, Leicester and Brighton. If you're not winning at least 4 of those 6 games, you don't deserve top 4. We got our just desserts tonight. This is exactly what these group of players deserve. I hope the club now understand just how big of a rebuild job we've got on our hands.
Just looked again at the table, we would definitely finish in 6th... I will expect United to beat Cardiff at home and us to lose to Burnley away... I wonder how many points we were over United when OGS took over... I still feel this team was ok for top 4 - with a half decent manager! 4points from 18 is relegation stuff!
To be honest if at the end of next season, we still don’t have champions league football nor win a trophy I would probably start thinking Emery has to go then. But then... I still think it depends how much we back him this summer. I kind of think we won’t at all.
Based on the previous 6 games, can you homestly see any other outcome? I would even say, change the starting 11, play some of the youth, nothinh to lose is there?
Based on the past 6 results and our atrocious away record throughout the season can you honestly envisage any other outcome? Any other club would with aspirations would have this guy fired.. He really should take a long look at himself! Can he change? Not really! I guess we are stucked with him for at least 2 more seasons!
I would give Emery a chance to continue working. Bring in his own players and players that believe in his way. These guys seem sub-standard and lack the hunger to achieve with him. They NEED to be shipped out: Mhiki - Substandard/getting no value out of him Ozil - Lack of hunger/getting little back Xhaka - Substandard Koscielny - Too old Welbeck - Injuries/we can get better Monreal - Too old Jenkinson Chambers - Substandard Elneny These can be kept as squad players but NOT STARTERS: Iwobi - last chance saloon Kolasinac - we need better to start Guendouzi - still learning Maitland Niles - pin down what role he is play once and for all. I like him at RB and would be a great backup for Bellerin. At some point he will get restless if he can't knock Bellerin to start. But this would be a good pair to have in that position. We definitely need to by 2 or 3 starting attacking players to play behind our STs. Aubameyang for all his goals is not a good "footballer". He is a top class Theo Walcott. Not saying he should be binned but if he is going to be starting we need ball players behind him and for him to concentrate on making the clever runs and getting the goals. He drops in too deep to get involved but he is not that type of player. Laca is better at that. So we have to figure out how to get the best out of having them 2 STs. We need 2 starting CBs and 1 LB. Ben Chillwell I like a lot. CBs that are commanding and vocal. We need proper captains in the team. Top quality at football and good leaders. Generally the pace of the team needs to increase. All the new signings should be quick. I find that players like Torreira do better when the pace of the game is high. When it is slow and controlled like it was on Sunday he seems to struggle. We can't play this slow style in this league. Ozil and Xhaka slow us down so much it is frustrating. I hope Unai sees this pace issue and fixes it!
Tierney will be more affordable than Chilwell. Above all else if we stick with Emery we must have quality wing-backs given the system he's best at employing. They provide the width, pace and attacking threat. Bellerin, Tierney, AMN and Kolasi would give us strength and depth in those two key positions. Then we just need lots and lots of better players in most positions. Tierney Tielemans (screw Leicester over) Ismaila Sarr or Leon Bailey Milenkovic, Zagadou or Mukiele (or maybe two of them somehow?!) Holding comes back Nelson comes back Bellerin comes back ------------------------------------------------Leno------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------Holding---------------Sokratis------------Zagadou---------------------------- Bellerin-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tierney --------------------------------Torreira-------------------Tielemans---------------------------------- ---------------Nelson---------------------Lacazette---------------------------Sarr------------------
I just think were at a stage now where its a 2-3 year rebuild. We need to : 1. Replace the players that are leaving on free transfers (Ramsey, Cech, Welbeck, Jenkinson, Lichsteiner, Suarez) 2. Replace the players that are too old (Koscielny, Monreal) 3. Ship out the players that are not good enough (Elneny, Xhaka, Mustafi) 4. Get rid of the players that are taking up too much money and not really delivering (Ozil, Mkhitaryan) 5. Buy players that will improve the squad on their own. We simply cannot do all this in a transfer window. I honestly struggle to see us doing all this in 3 transfer windows... So I think were at a long term - rebuild period now (if we werent already)
I would think Nelson will be the replacement for Welbeck and eventually Smith Rowe will be the replacement for Ramsey. Ospina to be the Cech replacement temporarily I guess?
Rotate with Laca or sell one of them. Can't remember us ever playing that well when they've both played and both played well.
