35 and 36 years old FFS, they are not getting a kick in this league.

This is true, it's going to take years and probably a change of ownership along with the right manager (not sure if the current one is it). Everything changes we've been there and you only have to look at how long and what we've gone through to see the reality of it.

I’d take them both on a year contract. They would still improve this team even at their age.

Totally agree with this. These guys will command huge wages that we can't afford to waste. The reality is we are unlikely to win any trophies anytime soon. We should be looking to rebuild not patch things up. I think we are better off looking for experience in defensive areas just as a basis to guide the young players and keep some calm. Young hungry players will cost less in wages and will run for you. We need runners and players with engines. That Ajax winger comes to mind.

Would also be looking at Ziyech, he looked really good against Spurs.

Probably right about Robben and Ribery. I’m just feeing a bit desperate about it all today after last nights **** show.

He seemed erratic to me, lots of energy and pace but not very composed. Saying that Mane used to be the same.

The composure comes with experience. I don't mind having potential that can become something at the state we are in. Our focus now has to be on seeing these young guys become successful either with us or we cash in big in the future. We have to take pleasure in being underdogs and the cup 'adventures' that comes with, as we are no longer the force we once were. Sounds all mushy but I think this humbling will give our club a soul again.

I think Ozil realised that 2 years ago. Shortly thereafter he also realised that he doesn't have a future at any big club. And he has been playing the lot of you like a fiddle ever since.

It just aggravates me that we gave him £350k per week when there was no-one else in for him at that time, which should have sent alarm bells ringing. How much healthier of a position would we be in had we not given him that contract (in terms of players we could get & having a healthier wage bill)?

That decision has monumentally facked us over.

I just want to point out we have lost our last two cup finals 3-0 and 4-1 respectively.

****ing embarrassing is an understatement. How can you get all the way to a final of a competition and get thrashed? We would have been better off getting knocked out earlier on if we were going to perform like that.

The greater damage is the precedent it sets for other players, present or future. If you give the impression that you hand out contracts like confetti, agents will be in their clients' ears relentlessly telling them to demand parity. The Ramsey saga is a good case in point. How when and why such a mediocre player came to believe he is worth £400k per week is a mystery, but in all likelihood seeing Ozil offered similar without contributing as much was probably a turning point. And now you have lost one of your better players on a free as a result. But Emery was 100% correct to dig his heels in as the first step in cleaning up the confetti. Second step is to cancel Ozil's contract. And no I'm not joking. Take the hit and make it clear to the world that no player can hold Arsenal football club to ransom and wages are earned, not demanded.

The outside perception of you is that the entire club is weak and directionless from top to bottom. A circus where anything goes because no one ever says or does otherwise. Painful steps will be needed to reverse this entrenched culture but if you don't take them, you will become the next West Ham just with less money.

Leadership and direction flows from the top in every successful business model. And whilst we all moan about Levy being too much of a control freak in the market, the fact is it is that same trait of meticulous planning that has delivered a new training ground, new academy and new stadium together with regular CL football. We have a direction. We know where we want to go and we know how to get there. The only ingredient we currently lack is that we cannot afford enough petrol but the multi-faceted aspects of the stadium business model (we are predicting a ****load of money from Rugby, NFL and commercial) should take care of that problem.

And all that comes from the top. The same bloke who built the stadium told Toby Alderweireld to kindly go forth when he asked to be made the 4th highest paid CB in world football. So now we're looking at losing him for £25m when he's worth twice that. But we'll take the hit. Because no player is bigger than the club and its dreams and aspirations. And while that hurts in the short term in the long and painful 18 year term since Levy took over it has been well worth it.

You haven't had that direction or leadership since David Dein left if I'm honest. Ian Wright called it. Thierry Henry called it. So did we. 2007 was probably the day Arsenal FC died. The corpse has been slowly decaying ever since. And, not coincidentally, it wasn't long after that for the first time in PL history it looked as though we might actually overtake you. Didn't quite happen under Redknapp but the fear was there, the panic was there. Anyone at that 4-4 draw or that 2-3 comeback could see it as plainly as we could see Bale's ears. It was a matter of when rather than if.

I don't think this is a matter of who to sell and who to sign. The problems are institutional and need to be dug out root and branch.

And that's probably why you went for Emery. Because he's a nice guy. Doesn't get angry. Doesn't freeze players out (even Ozil was welcomed back in after enough pressure). And so i thank the stars that you didn't go for Simone. He would've torn Kronke's testes off and eaten them raw.

Yeah, David Dein top top guy, what a loss he was.
Ozil is just a 1 in 10 player, if you're lucky.
    Neither strong mentally or physically.

Exactly what I said on another forum. The day the board kicked David Dein out was the day we sold our soul as a club. He was Arsenal to the core and always put the manager, team and results on the pitch first.

Ironic that they booted him out for trying to bring Kronke in really. 'We don't need their type here' was the defiant cry from Hill-Wood and the rest of the board. A year later they were all selling their shares to him.

I really dont agree with most the comments on here.

Fans will be happy if we go out and bow £200 million on players. This strategy would be incredibly foolish because it may not guaranatee us anything (except debt) - We dont have an owner who is willing to spend his own money. We have to run the Club like a business.

The key for success at a Club like Arsenal is three fold:

    1. A strong youth policy. Buying and educating top young players. As opposed to trying to buy established ones. We just cant compete with Clubs like Real, City, PSG etc.. and therefore will end up with an inferior squad if we rely purely on our financial power.

    2. Investing in great coaches. Talent is made. Ajax and the French leagues understand this. In football we too often think of players as 'gifted or special' - with the right coaching staff top players can be built from the ground up. For me (as someone who has worked as a high level strength and conditioning coach) this is the MOST important thing. If Arsenal scout out and seek the best Coaches (rather than just trying to recruit ex players) this will have the biggest benefit.

    3. Champions League football. The Club needs this for exposure, to keep the Clubs profile up and for the financial rewards.
