A thread to discuss the fortunes and misfortunes of our U23 and U18 sides I'll get the ball rolling with the EFL Trophy fixtures
...okay, seriously, how the hell do we have four keepers in our U23s plus at least three in the U18s, yet we're having to line up with a trialist in goal?
Maybe he's being considered for third choice? Any idea who he is, apart from being called Smith? Ted Smith, formerly of Southend and England U20s, perhaps? Jordan Smith from Forest? Edit: It's the first one, apparently. Someone's even updated his Wiki to reflect that.
Yeah, definitely Ted Smith: Seeing as the likes of Whiteman, Austin, Tanganga, Eyoma, Roles, Marsh and Parrott weren’t in today’s squad, I’d take that as a hint towards them likely being part of the Singapore squad.
An updated teamsheet, c/o the OS Smith* (Oluwayemi 68), Okedina, Cirkin (Thorpe 68), Lyons-Foster (A Shashoua 46), Statham (R Clarke 46), Dinzeyi, Markanday (Maghoma 46), Hinds, Richards (Sterling 46), Oakley-Boothe, Tracey (Reynolds* 68) * = Trialist I've seen suggestions that Lyons-Foster was being played in midfield for this one, which implies a couple of things: Marsh will be joining the first team on tour, and TOB may well be headed to the Championship on loan shortly I've also seen it suggested that Reynolds is none other than Jamie Reynolds, who was released at the end of last season - so nobody mention this is what happens when you try looking him up on the OS... please log in to view this image Whiteman, Austin, Roles, Marsha and Parrott have all been training with the first team this week, and at the very least I'd expect Whiteman, Marsh and Parrott to be joining the first team for the tour
Yeah Swansea are looking like the frontrunners to secure TOB on loan. Although I’ve seen Stoke, Huddersfield, Leeds and Derby linked with him too. Hopefully it is Swansea, because Steve Cooper will have managed him during his U17 days with England and so if he’s wanting him for Swansea you’d expect it’s because he already knows what TOB can bring to the team and therefore sees a place for him.
Stupid way of highlighting it, but I assume it's included because they've played with him at England youth level. Not massively relevant, I'll admit, but having an insight into his personality and how he'll fit into the squad is handy.
Yeah I had a little chuckle at it, not usually something I see when getting info on a player. FWIW though, Southend have a decent pedigree when it comes to producing goalkeepers. Dan Bentley is arguably the best keeper in the Championship and he just signed for Bristol City after a few seasons with Brentford, I'm pretty sure we were briefly inked with Nathan Bishop at some point last season, who at 19 has been sharing number one duties for them whilst Ted Smith (judging by a few twitter comments) was highly rated too but seemingly unlucky with injuries/ competition. All played at England youth level.
He'd probably be put off by all the extra work, considering our academy's habit of collecting more goalkeepers than we can actually play
The dates for our EFL Cup matches have been confirmed Ipswich (a) 3rd September 7:45pm Colchester (a) 8th October 7:30pm Gillingham (a) 12th November 7:45pm
Dulwich took a first-hand lead, TOB scored the equaliser, and Dulwich missed a late penalty Full lineups whenever WindyCOYS or Spurs Odyssey provide them
Full lineups c/o the OS Smith* (Oluwayemi 59), Statham (Binks 46), Hinds, Oakley-Boothe, Okedina, Dinzeyi, Tracey (Markanday 46), A Shashoua, Sterling (c) (Asante 66), Maghoma (Thorpe 66), R Clarke (Richards 46) No idea of the actual formation, but I'm hoping that TOB wasn't playing at fullback...
Our Dev Squad lost 2-1 to Rennes in their opening game of the Euro U21s tournament, taking the lead with a Kaziah Sterling header before forgetting that we were expected to play a second half - which makes even less sense given it was two 25-minute halves Oluwayemi, Okedina, Hinds, Oakley-Boothe, Dinzeyi, Binks, Markanday (Richards 47), A Shashoua, Sterling, Maghoma (Thorpe 47), R Clarke (Tracey 38)
Kion Etete grabbed his first goal for us today in a 2-1 win over Caen, Kazaiah Sterling scored the other. We then beat Strasbourg 2-0 later in the day, with Sterling again on target as well as Shillow Tracey. We’ll face Stade Brestois in a third place playoff match tomorrow whilst Rennes and Standard Liege compete in the final.
