Just under an hour to save these two clubs. Just heard how much money the old BW chairman pumped into the - millions!!

Sadly the offer to save Bury has gone belly up.

Keeping my fingers crossed that there is good news later....

Best of luck to both of them. There by the grace of god, go I. It could easily have been us if our owners didn't have such deep pockets.

Possibly but Leyton Orient came perilously close last season.

Seems to be something very wrong with football finances these days with so much money coming in from TV rights etc but all seems to end up in players pockets with only those at the top end benefitting.

Admittedly a lot of clubs are poorly ran, not sure what can be done but really sad to see clubs with a lot of history going out of business.

I’ve gone to a lot of Bury games over the last decade or so with mates from there. Chalked up some grounds I’d never have done with Rangers and had some great days out. It’s incredibly sad and can’t help but feel it was avoidable.

I’m hoping they can start again in the Conference North rather than having to drop all the way down to the very bottom. With nearly a year to prepare, once the dust settles a bit, there are some good people who create something new but it’ll never be the same club.

It turns out the EFL didn't carry out checks on Steve Dale ahead of his £1 purchase of Bury when a simple check would have revealed the 20 companies he had been involved with that had gone into admin/CVA/liquidation.

Why have the EFL allowed Bolton to play and not Bury? Bolton are in deeper financial trouble, have no senior pros or manager, is it because Bolton are a bigger club? The EFL are not fit for purpose and need a complete overhaul as they are more concerned with petty governance than the well being of their member clubs. Their FFP rules are a perfect example of everything that's wrong with the game and is anti-competitive in the real world. Fining clubs that can pay their way when they make losses protects the richer clubs and contributes to what will eventually become a closed shop super league...

Really feel for the Bury fans...they've already been deleted from the league table on some media sources, and sit bottom of all those they remain on. Must be weird for those who have followed them for years, to suddenly not have a football club to support.

whilst I think steve dale should shoulder majority of blame, the previous ownership did their best to kill off this club as well. So this again questions the fit and proper ownership criteria. And are the EFL the competent person's to make these decisions?

And then if clubs can sell their grounds to cover playing losses, what happens if the clubs don't get promoted and get fined, similar to what happened to us?

There has to be a discussion going forward which prevents things like this happening again. Bolton have a temporary stop on the process, however is this long enough? they are playing their youngsters in the division 1 - whilst some of the young players will grab the opportunity some are just not ready for first team football.

how much are those FA executives on? Last I heard the PFA Chairman, 70+ old Gordon Taylor, was getting £700,000+, Jugs on £1m a year to present an hour football programme 40 weeks a year, Sanchez £500,000 a week to sit on his 'arris. Don't tell me something couldn't have been done to help little Bury survive:headbang:

The anger should really be directed at the English Football League and it's CEO Shaun Harvey (recently retired from his £400k per annum post) for allowing prospective owners who do not come anywhere near passing the laughable Fit & Proper Test from buying these clubs and then basically washing their hands of the problem when it all goes tits up..........

Despite everything that has been said about TF over the years we should thank our lucky stars that he and the other owners are prepared to fund our little club in West London otherwise we could have been in the same boat as both Bury and Bolton.......

Yes, TF is largely responsible for getting us into a financial mess, but at least he didn't cut us loose

We do feel leaner now, with an austerity psyche

agree, the point I was trying to make is some are making bundles out of football, the money needs to be distributed a lot fairer

Oh absolutely.......mostly players and agents from the best league in the world........the main problem is that these days top flight football is aimed at the armchair "supporter" who in all probability has never been inside the ground of the club they purport to support and has never heard of the likes of Bury and so doesn't care if they survive or not because they'd never watch any football below Premier League level........these people wouldn't appreciate the community feeling that such a club commands........

Oh the irony of it, Franchise FC could go bust? So the grass wasn't greener in the land of the concrete cows. Perhaps they'll ask if they can merge with AFC Wimbledon and come back to Plough Lane in the shiny new stadium?...<laugh>

Winkelman wanted it. He moved a football club to another area. Hope his pockets are deep.
Long live AFC Wimbledon - fingers crossed they can return to their spiritual home
