Extinction Rebellion is an international apolitical network using non-violent direct action to persuade governments to act justly on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.

    The Truth
We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. Life on Earth is in crisis: scientists agree we have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown, and we are in the midst of a mass extinction of our own making.

This is from their website, so thoughts?

    Or is Boris right?
Extinction Rebellion protesters on the streets of London have been labelled "uncooperative crusties" by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The demonstrators - who are demanding action on climate change - should abandon their "hemp-smelling bivouacs" and stop blocking roads.

Or are we being led by the people who they are disrupting into thinking they are a bunch of crusties so that they lose support?

Can sympathise with it. The media will highlight the people who just rock up for a day out with a Pret sandwich but you can’t deny it’s a worthy (the worthiest?) cause and not enough is being done.

This isn’t the main reason but I’ve not had meat for a few days and feel better for it. Will try and go a whole week then another week and just see how it goes. Will probably sack it off when I’m bored of tuna. If it helps change people’s behaviour for the better it has to be a good thing.

I'm also cutting down on meat and looking at the bigger picture, I feel that there's a worthy cause here and that they have had to resort to these measures to be noticed. The casual protesters are showing their support and will then get on with normal life but at least they are showing support.

It's bound to piss people off as they end up late for work etc but twats like Boris need to know that the everyday people are behind this.

Extinction Rebellion seems to have cracked using protests to transform public debate. But as it starts another major rebellion this week, it might find the challenge ahead is even greater.

Extinction Rebellion’s April protests were an enormous success. Together with the BBC’s Attenborough documentary and the school climate strikes, they created a surge in public concern about the environment. The climate emergency is now established in the top five most important issues facing the UK today, at around the same level as the economy. Since the April protests, the government has legislated for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and Labour is moving towards a much more ambitious target.

Few people could have predicted that a two-week blockade of central London would be met with so much support or have such political impact. So the natural question is whether a new round of protests can repeat the success.

Agree. I just mean that wherever these people aren’t adhering 100% to a perfect eco-friendly lifestyle it’ll be held against them to undermine the cause.

It’ll have a net benefit but a diminishing one, even if it makes some deniers weirdly more entrenched in their position, but that’s on them and you can never convince everyone.

If any of them glue themselves to a train, then just order the driver to pull away. Or if they lay in the road, just drive over them. Should put a few off. Good cause but wrong way to go about it imo.

People don't have a choice at times and detractors need to realise this, people have to use the car or the train or even a boat or plane but if the government get on board and changes are made there maybe alternatives for transport in the future.

I think the problem is that it is has become the only way to do it as unless they go to these extreme measures they are ignored.

    Let them protest

    Everyone’s talking about the climate

    It’s our climate

We might be too lazy to give a **** but there’s a few that don’t so let them do their thing

Understand, that feeding the Capitalist beast everyday isn’t your only purpose on this Earth

    OK?

We cannot keep ignoring the problems we are creating with the environment.

4 year governments aren't going to do anything without being forced to or heavily leaned on.

I tentatively support them although I'm not one of their number.
