What are people upset about? They're fixing stuff that needs fixing, investing in quality youth players, setting up proper scouting networks and he confirms there's money available for January.
The supporters definitely need a "lift", the whole club is depressed, from fans to players. Never thought this club would sink so low.
What are people upset about that they've read in the linked article if that makes the question any clearer.
“If you want to know what someone’s motivations are I always say ask them. “ How do we do that then ? When Charlie and SD walked in here we were told they had enough money to see us into the top half of the Championship. What happened there ? Did they think we would be promoted at the first attempt ? If they did they were naive at best, stupid more likely. Given that, they still stuck with Ross. Their ridiculous 100 point statement ensured said Ross an early pay off bonanza. That stupid statement was always going to cost them a lot of money. They have now employed a manager who was not a popular choice and they knew that. It’s early doors but he is struggling. It’s their choice, not ours. They will be to blame if he doesn’t deliver. We have a man who makes a good living from PR making a pigs ear of it right now at the club he partly owns. We have an owner who has gone into hiding and needs to come out of hiding and take control and show himself to be a leader. We have investment from some very rich Americans which is as clear as mud. We have Juan Sartori. Wtf is that all about ? All in all we are in a right mess and we don’t seem to have the owners to get us out of it. Did I mention Coton and Hill ? No, I didn’t. A pair of jokers but none of it is funny. Anyway, I’m done.
I feel that when things have calmed down ( say in another 5 years ) people will look back with fondness at the short era as many do with Murray. Donald has painted himself into a corner in my opinion. He has taken on something far too big for his abilities and resources. He came in full of fire and spunk and seems to have withdrawn into some sort of panic room. You cant deny he did a good job getting shot of some deadwood, reducing wages and costs. He deserves credit for that. Being a recluse wont do him any favours and will only ramp up the volume of the haters and perennially suspicious. He has to decide whether to 5hit or get off the bog. Mealy mouthed marketing man methven is starting to show more cracks in the ownership veneer, and he needs to keep his trap shut! Seeing poor results and then waffling on about fixing lifts..deary me. From a football fan perspective it's the equivalent of hearing you have lost your job and responding by saying you need to get a new dog. I dont believe PP has had enough time yet but the signs are ominous. I hope he turns it around.
At a guess, I'd day perhaps that in one breath, Charlie is saying "we want investment to come into the club that will help us compete at the next level", then he talks about spending the money on fixing lifts, speaker systems and computer software. Then says "this investment isn't going to be about what we do in January." For a PR man, Methven doesn't half make some spectacular own goals in my opinion. Yes he said Parkinson will be backed in January but is that in the same way that Ross was "backed" in the summer, because most fans will feel we need a bit more. The way he talks about the scouting structure is worryingly Mickey mouse as well in my opinion. It sounds like literally Coton was our only scout and now we have a Scandinavian one and a "Midlands" one. That's a hell of a long way from being able to compete in the Championship. A final point, also which needs pondering is that the Americans "have no financial connections to the club and that's the way it will stay". The Americans do not have shares in the club, it is not a first step to a takeover, it is finance secured by Donald for his company, albeit with strings attached to invest it in Sunderland. I do worry a little that Donald and Methven don't actually know what it takes to compete in the Championship, it all sounds very lower league to me.
We are lower league like it or not despite our history and crowds. Donald is richer than methven and even then wouldnt stand out in the rich list of div 1 clubs who are all pretty 'poor' ( by football ownership standards ). As I have stated many times it is not so much players but coaching that gets you out of this league. Neither Ross's coaching or results got better with all the players he brought in and he brought over a dozen in. Charlton, Luton and Barnsley got promoted on the smell of an oily rag in comparison to us. Same as most teams from this league in recent years. All that Ross did was add to the layers of fat and stuck us on his tried and failed receive it and hoof it football. People saying we need more players are missing the point.
We Defo need a new striker I'd just get shot of Grigg arguably after jozy the worst CF ever in safc history certainly the last 20 years I'd even take a loss on him the most un interested player I've seen in years Jozy had his limitations but Christ Grigg is worse than dog ****
Flo..effort?? Angell was just outright bad Laslandes was an alchi and should never have been bought. Graham tried..but 5 m then was like 8 or 9 now Anyway..each to their own
When he talks about being able to compete at the next level he's obviously talking about investing in youth and having money available in January not fixing the speakers. If Parkinson has a few million to spend and he uses it wisely it's still head and shoulders above what our rivals can do. Seems to me like a lot of our fans have unrealistic expectations about what's going to be spent while we're in league one and they're unfairly taking it out on the owners.
Same fans who couldn't be arse spending a tenner for a game at home yesterday but calling our owners skin flints
If Parkinson has a few million to spend, most of our fans will be happy with that. We didn't spend anything like that in the summer.
