I’ve moved into a new place and I’m trying to decide how to get TV.

I’ve always previously been with Sky but I’m looking for a cheaper alternative whilst still getting sport.

Sky, BT, Virgin, a combination of streaming services, there’s lots of options and I’m wondering what people currently have and what they’d suggest?

Someone suggested I go for an Amazon fire stick with kodi but I’m unsure exactly how it works and what the chances are of being caught streaming sport on it are? Does anyone else use this method?

For me it's easier to have 'Now' subscription on a as and when basis, when I feel like watching sport. Also via this method Now will email you offers, for example recently I had unlimited sport ie all SKY Sports channels for something like £16.99 per month. They also gave me an option of extending my subscription for another 2 months at £20 per month.

The good thing with Now is you can cancel any offers at anytime, even if the following month you would auto go to full subscription, because you are not signing a contract. So I take the offer, then before the month is up, cancel Now but you still keep your offer for the period paid upto.

They also offered me mobile access (limited) for £1 per month. I hate trying to look at sport on a mobile so didn't bother with that as you can't chromecast it.

The only downside I found was you have to chromecast the full package from a mobile to your TV, the problem with that is you can be a minute behind on play status, so don't have any social media running in time with the game, otherwise you will know a goal has been scored before you see it. If you are running it only on a laptop it will be in real time (i think) as long has you don't chromecast.

Around this time of year, ie Xmas, you will see shops offering Now Sports for £10 per week, if there is a particular week of a load of good games on. Just buy the voucher in advance and use it anytime during the season.

The reason I do it like this, I got fed up with paying SKY shed loads of money, my bill use to be in excess of £100 per month.

BT are very expensive and the customer service is awful. I pay for Sky and choose 2 sports channels that I would watch and get them for £10.

I also find Now TV expensive as I want to watch it too often which is why I got the Sky deal.

Netflix is still the best streaming service imo even though the quality drops now and then they always seem to turn it around.

Tried Amazon and didn't like the layout and the content is not great.

I used to stream with Kodi and did get caught where a company went to court and forced Sky to give customer details, I had a scary letter looked into it and sent it back with a note saying no thanks and that was the last I ever heard.

D+ won't launch in the UK and Ireland till the end of next March. I'm interested in the Mando series too, so it looks like using a dodgy streaming site.

I assume to start with SKY as a new subscriber you are commiting to an 18 month contract?

How does the £10 work, is that per month and you can get any two stand alone sports channels with no other subscribed channels and costs for that price?

cant be right that. It’s been being advertised for ages. Why advertise it here coming out in November if we can’t get the channel?

Seems silly to have such a big gap between US and EU launches, when the EU base is basically going to use 3rd party sites for the Mandalorian.

    ffs you’re right.

I was planning on getting the channel before Christmas then binge watch the lot when I have time off work. Gutted.

Also planning on buying the new Star Wars game this month. I’m not much of a gamer but I do love a Star Wars game. Used to love knights of the old republic on the original x box.

I won’t stream it. I hated kodi as the quality was utter ****. Would rather wait and watch it in good quality.

looking forward to the Witcher starting on Netflix

It's a deal I have, I have the standard Sky TV and broadband, I was paying for the PL channel and they gave me another free.

I think you're right with the 18 month contract.

The only streaming I do is a website that plays US coverage of the Champions League. Quality is excellent and it doesn't buffer.

It's not answered the question mate. To get two Sports channels for £10....how much subscription are you paying SKY in total and would a new subscriber have to sign a new 18 month contract and is there any set up charges OR can you get the £10 as a stand alone package, and what two channels did you choose?

BT do seem expensive but have the fastest internet available. It’s looking like £65 a month for internet+TV with the sport channels. Doesn’t include sky sports though which is an extra £16 a month. Does include a free 4K UHD TV or Xbox one S though.

Going to have a look at sky options now.

Tbh other than sport I find I just watch Netflix instead of normal TV so I’m not particularly fussed about standard tv packages.

I've been with them for ages so can't answer some of that. I pay Sky £75 for TV, the 2 sports channels PL and American Sport for NBA and I get Sky Go and broadband and phone line rental. They tend to have good deals for new customers and will do deals if you are leaving.

So you pay £75 not £10 and you only get two sports channels for that <whistle>

I also watch Netflix more than normal TV but don't dismiss Sky Box Sets, it's very good although not set up very well.
