The first signing will tell us a lot about our chances of staying up. If it’s an injury prone or out of contract freebie like Joe Ledley, I’m not going to be impressed. We need to spend serious money on 4-6 Championship standard players ...else we are down.
I will be surprised if we sign any players regarded to be 'good' or 'very good' on January 1st. Assuming the new owners are not able to negotiate deals (as they aren't ratified yet) then any player deals announced this early in January must have been signed off by Driesen and Duchatelet. I'll be gobsmacked if the two of them have backed Bowyer and Gallen properly in this transfer window. EDIT: I posted this message before I saw the post just above. If it is ESI who have arranged these deals (or at least promised to pay for them) that is good to hear, but I'll admit I am surprised they are allowed to do that. I guess it could be because the deal is finalised and the EFL have already approved it, but the parties have delayed the public announcement to increase the "showbiz" factor. Bloody annoying in my book
That's a top 6 Championship wage (sadly these days). Not surprised we are reluctant to pay it. There should be other, better deals to be had. The transfer window is only 11 hours old.
I think the loan signing will be Brewster from Liverpool or Jack Clarke from Spurs. He has just returned from a loan spell at dirty Leeds.
Dear Mr Southall, No crocks, pensioners or journeymen please. If ESI are really running the transfer window campaign already, use some good sense and bring in some good footballers, who will help to guarantee our Championship status. Because if we do end up with crocks, fans will want to know on whose recommendation they were signed. If it was Bowyer and Gallen, then tell us.
