While this forum decides whether being concerned about the climate crisis is worthy of sticky inclusion, I'll share another video posted just today by Just Have A Think. Dave, the YTer who started the channel, has done a lot of new research on this one, and it's extra special because it touches individual households who make a difference: YT channels like Dave's are way ahead of mainstream news, who are often upto several years behind the current state of the art. Plus, often being highly inaccurate too. Dave's is a serious environmental channel, with well researched valid information, presented in his own friendly way.
This thread surely has to be made a sticky. It's also an encouragement for other people who are trying to find a better way to live, that doesn't impact on the environment so much, to find this kind of thing on a football forum. Can anyone think of a more urgent subject that affects every single one of us, because I can't? Thanks for putting this up TSS. Much appreciated.
Here's one for you. Now we had this conversation at work about the overuse of plastics. One of the biggest industries in the world now is the gaming industry. Stop selling games in disc form. Make games digital download only.
That's noted, and perhaps that's a great idea in itself. Do you know any? They tend to be all converts there. Here, we are trying to alert those who don't know, or don't give a toss. If you are a younger person, the warming and polluted Earth will directly adversely affect you, whether you understand the process[es], or find the whole thing unimportant, or not. If you are older and have children or grandchildren, and don't think you will be personally affected, then you are bequeathing them an environment which will be far more unstable than the one you have lived in. Is it fair to do that to the successors you wanted? I constantly hear and read that people apparently want the best for their children.
Sainsbury just admitted to a poor Xmas season. Reason? Bad sales of computer games. Guess where they're going? Pretty much everything is going to go online. If you work in retail in the High St, as a career, my advice is to re-train. And be selective about which career you choose to go into. because a lot of the stuff like legal, banking, and admin, is being done by lower level AI these days. The biggest upturn in UK employment currently is [inevitably] elderly care and professional driving [depot to door deliveries especially]. Plumbers won't be replaced by robots. Oh, and environmental engineers and technicians, but they need qualifications. The first two just need a good attitude and driving skills. Now just listen to Google Duplex Assistants making appointments. This is AI at work. The receivers don't know they are talking to an AI. Would you? This is fairly sophisticated AI. The background stuff can be done by AI while it is half asleep and whistling the Sailor's Hornpipe: OK, what has this got to do with the environment? It's the radically changing future. When people say, "I won't change", they are hugely mistaken. Most of the next couple of decades there will be so much change that the future may well be out of your hands. So it's as well to pay attention while you can do something about it.
But lower level AI in legal banking etc only goes so far when the ones above get too old and retire. Succession planning for robots, that is where the real war will be fought.
Yes, at present that is true. But AI is going to hugely disrupt banking as it gets smarter. Plus, there are emerging cryto-currencies, and I can't begin to fathom how much employment disruption they are going to cause, because they are made for Computer/AI finance.
OMG, I have got to share this on here. Are there no depths of deception that Toyota [Lexus] will go to?: I mean. This is total and utter BS. It's not even clever or witty. And Norway has already banned Toyota from advertising this nonsense, but they are continuing it in the UK because they think people are stupid. I think we need to ban it too. It's just a slightly more complicated petrol car. Nothing innovative and/or environment saving.
Talking of electric vehicles have you seen this? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-drivers-1-500-miles-without-charging-it.html
Yeah. Saw that about 3 months ago. I hope it gets a proper use in some battery category. There are major downsides along with the major upsides in the EV category.
This has to be my favourite vehicle. Toyota market a deception called the "self-charging hybrid." Banned in Norway, there's nothing clean or green about the SCH. You can only fill it with petrol. Whereas this eDumper is truly self-charging. No engine, so it never needs fuel. It is perfectly suited to its role. Brilliant.
