My take on the match was really much like Rodneys
I thought Ball was exceptional today.Amos was OK.

I didn't really think that Hall/Masterson were ever under pressure.
(Their goal was sad but excellent. Hunt their full back takes the ball of Eze, a couple of steps and then puts an unexpectedly brilliant cross to the far side of the penalty area where their no 9 running onto it connects with a flying header. Yes you can and will say that the CD should have been tracking back and Kelly should have got a hand to it, but it was so quick and spontaneous it took us all a bit by surprise. I must admit I did clap it).

BOS had a poor first half, his first touch was lacking, but I am not sure we actually realised how windy and swirly it was.

The second half we grew into. We had endless chances but city had packed the box, and we always wanted another touch and without Wells the poacher we were a bit lost. Clarke had an excellent 10 minutes, at least 3 runs and crosses worthy of goals. Another match we will have scored.

We have three difficult away (Huddersfield, Swansea, Forest) matches but three home matches (Stoke, Derby, Brum) we must win.
    Squeaky bum time

Surprised how little flak Hall is getting over the pass to Eze and his marking for the cross.

The people around me were blaming Eze for not receiving the pass, which was rather harsh.

Unless Eze single-handedly wins us the game and negotiates a free trade deal with the US he’s not good enough for much of our support.

As I saw it, the pass was telegraphed from Hall, and Eze did not seem to expect it and didn't move towards the ball. This gave the FB free range to intercept and play a perfect (if speculative ) cross in to the box. Both were at fault, Hall being on the front foot could not track back quick enough to track their CF on his run in to score, but the result being a goal was a bit unexpected. These things happen, small mistakes

The more I watch the modern game the less I understand it. Yesterday's case in point was the performance by Amos. In the first half he was his usual height of negativity: when he wasn't rolling the ball backwards to invite pressure on the defence himself he was pointing at others to do the same. But after the break and presumably with the manager demanding we do things differently he was a revelation: linking up our forward motion effectively and often finding himself in dangerous positions well up the pitch. Result: Warburton subs him after 20 minutes. Go figure, as the Americans say.

On another note, not a single ball in behind the City defence, no sign of Hugill wanting it there anyway, and one limp shot on target in the entire 90 minutes despite 72% possession. The term 'free-scoring' seems like ancient history already.

So many times I’ve left the stadium wondering why we didn’t play the first half in the same manner we did the second. Yesterday was the same.

Certainly very few balls were played behind the City defence except for when BOS got going a bit 2nd half, one run and then a lovely pass forward took out half their defence. Chair did a bit, but to little effect.

Apart from some good corners, Eze never did more going forward than make the safe short passes linking the play, and when he tried to shoot it went yards wide. He seems to be playing on half throttle these days, taking the safe option too much, not running as much, and on his heels for the goal when Hall's pass was a bit behind him. Hope he can get back to his best now the window is shut.

I agree: a larger proportion of those passes need to be crisper, quicker, bolder. I believe - hope - that, with time and practice, it will come. I prefer to watch Warburton's style of football over recent seasons and I can see how it should, eventually, improve our results. The second half was better and we fashioned enough half chances to get at least one goal.

From where I was sat, I was disappointed Kelly didn’t get a hand to it. There wasn’t much pace to the header.

I only highlights on TV. Good interception by BC defender and good cross. Also a header that was never going to be stopped.
Cannot blame Eze for not getting a pass played to him, nor will I blame the person who passed. We did have a considerable amount of time to get an equaliser.
Onwards and upwards for the next game.
Hull, BC manager and others compliment the R's on being a good side, that play good football with good technical players.
They just need to believe tin themselves a little more and get a win, get the confidence that goes with it and climb the table

Thanks. A good read. Realistically we just have to write off the rest of this season and see what the summer brings.

We really can't write off the rest of the season

If nothing else many fans - myself included - have committed a lot of money to following the remaining matches and we deserve the same commitment from the players and management

I'm not a big fan of possession football. I attend matches to be entertained and possession football rarely does that. The best matches we've played this season have seen quick incisive passes and movement. The first half yesterday was very painful to watch at times and when we did finally start playing in the second half we looked dangerous. More of that please.....preferably with us scoring!

We were certainly much better - and more positive - in the second half. In general, I like Warburton's style of play too, but when it's over-cautious it can be painful to watch.

Lots of so called fans on Facebook blaming Eze for not moving to the ball and describing Hall's pass as perfect.
Have to say it didn't look that way to me.

If it was perfect it would have gone to him. It’s nice we can bond over this.

Eze is probably worried that if he tries things and they don't come off, the idiot fans who know nothing about the game will get on his back (as usual).

My first impression on seeing it was that he could see it was going to be intercepted and didn’t move towards the ball to protect it, conceding it too easy. Just an observation, big fan of the guy.
