Frank Clark played for the European Cup winners after he left here and I wouldn’t have taken him back either. Liverpool would still be the best team in the World even if Gini wasn’t in the team.
On a free, for one of the worst teams in La Liga. You're suggesting that we should take Ben over Gini, who as CC said, is playing for the best team in the world right now. For the expectations when we signed him, he was, doesn't mean we have to hate him or think he was ****e. When you sign the best striker in the league fresh off a Premier League title, and we end up doing absolutely nothing with it... it's a flop.
Why not though? He's a solid midfielder with passion, eye for a pass, good strong dependable player. He'd walk into our side, captain it and make our current lot look like garbage.
Cos he's a mackem **** Na man, but I think he's 1 of them that needs better players around him. Not saying he isn't an important part of their team, but he wouldn't do much here surrounded by crap players
No. A goal every 2 games a flop does not make. We may not have won anything when Al was playing for us but that wasn’t his fault. He did his bit and more. Look at the rest of the team but not Al. He was the League’s best striker when he signed and until his last season which was one to many ( but he still scored better than 1 in every 3 games) he was the best striker in the League.
I guess people have vary definitions of flop. Which isn't a big deal. I don't consider the individual, but the entire scenario regarding the player. Compared to what people expected Newcastle to do, compared to what we did, when we first signed Shearer which was essentially a decade of slowly going off the boil. I'd say that it was a flop. For example, people are saying Jon Dahl wasn't a flop, because he had a good career. But to me that makes him even worse of a flop, he WAS good, we just didn't do anything with him. So it's all what we define it as.
JDT for me wasn’t a flop for the same reason as Joelinton isn’t. He wasn’t played in the right position. Shearer was injured pre-season and was out for all/most (?) of that season and we proceeded to bury a small, slight poacher as our target man. Pure stupidity. He played elsewhere and for some strange reason they played him in his correct position and he scored goals and had a good career. Wonder what the secret was?
I'm actually a big fan of JDL, so I did follow him a bit and he had a very odd a career. He was often signed as this big sparkling new striker who would smash the goals in... when really he was a second striker, playing off the main. He was great next to Shevchenko.
