Exclusive on back page of The Times today.

    - The Premier League and EFL is going behind closed doors as early as this weekend

    - Ticket holders will be provided with private streams of the games

    - 3pm kick-offs will not be shown live to anyone other than people who had bought tickets but cannot attend

    - The above is due to the current law, which they don't want to change as this is a temporary measure and the 3pm blackout is to remain in place for when normality resumes

    - Pubs will not be allowed to show the football matches, to avoid crowds gathering in pubs

    - TV companies will be allowed to show extra games in their usual broadcast slots

    - Sky and BT will be allowed to show multiple matches in their 1230 / 1730 slots and their Super Sunday and Monday/Friday night slots

Norfolk not been badly hit yet so fingers crossed. Unless they don't want us infected folk from the south east travelling up :(

Still think behind closed doors is largely pointless unless they're shutting down public transport and schools as well.

'Ticket holders will be provided with private streams of the games'

'Pubs will not be allowed to show the football matches, to avoid crowds gathering in pubs'

So a pub lanlord who has a ticket for a game will be able to watch the game with 'a few mates' who just happen to be drinking beer, sold in the pub. This could prove to be another of those 'watching a live game, shown on a foreign channel' situations. How can you prove that the match isn't being shown 'legally'?

This could ruin SKY. So not all bad, then.

BBC article is saying a restriction on public gatherings is not considered likely at this stage.

That it's not considered likely is foolish. By the time spread is sufficient that it's unavoidable, it's also sufficient that it's beyond containment.

It's coming. It's merely a question of when, and taking prophylactic measures sure beats the hell out of ending up in the position in which Italy finds itself.

Don’t see what all the fuss is about. We’ll all be under 30 foot of water before the season’s over anyway.

If a pub gets caught showing the game illegally they will receive a big fine .......and the way to tell if they are is that the pub (legal stream) has a pint glass logo on the screen.

Oh, I mean, these are the first couple gentle breezes. You're at Italy -13 days; if steps are not taken in very short order, things will get much worse within a week. The curve for the UK is much the same as that of other European countries that are now struggling to catch up...people need to take it very seriously and act accordingly, because **** is about to get very real.

I've been saying this for about 2 weeks. Mrs No7 is wondering why I am chilled about it when she has benign panic mode for the last 2 weeks - I said it will get bad, but not yet. We have to let it run its course.

But people need to start taking preventative measures now. Don't gather in large groups; practice social distancing, telecommute where possible, all that stuff. It'll run its course; whether that course runs through hospitals having to decide who even gets treatment and who is simply left to die is the question. Because that's where northern Italy is at.

Just think how many people have passed on the virus this week at Cheltenham alone. Party central.

I was in contact with someone who was at Cheltenham on Tuesday. As he sat with two older friends (the most vulnerable category) he joked about it. Two days before that he was at Cruffs in Brum. I imagine the invisible spread is a lot deeper than what we all think. He looked ill. I feel ill. Can we cull selfish people first please.

It's utterly insane that something like Cheltenham was allowed to happen. 60k a day in relatively close quarters, older average age than a concert or some such, at a time when there's a disease active in the UK that kills more than 10% of people over the age of 70. People have kinda gotten lulled into a false sense of security by disease outbreaks that were contained, but we're already past the containment stage here.

It’s mental. It looks like Liverpool will win the title behind closed doors but what happens if and when the people take to the streets and the pubs...

We need a full lockdown over here before it’s too late.

To put it in context: right now the UK has about 500 confirmed cases, according to the Johns Hopkins map. That's about where Italy was on day 5, which was February 27th. Six days after that, after a 500% increase, all schools were closed, all sporting events were cancelled. Five days after that, following another 500% increase, all non-essential businesses in the goddamned country were ordered closed, and the health care system was failing in large, prosperous areas. And the rate of cases is still climbing at an exponential rate. It went from 500 to 12,000+ in twelve days, and it's very likely to top 100,000 within a week, because there are a huge number of cases out there that either aren't symptomatic yet or where the disease hasn't progressed sufficiently for people to seek medical care.

I know that the UK likes to set its collective jaw and keep the course, but that doesn't work terribly well with a pandemic, heh.

Yep I worded it slightly wrong - What I meant is the that is inevitable that we will hit Italian levels. We can mitigate it by doing all those things now. We are all responsible, every single one of us. We need to do all we can to make sure we don't get it or pass it on to others unwittingly.

Why have the US banned all flights to Europe bar the UK. Makes no sense to me or have I missed something. Were just in the **** as the rest of the E.U. So were trying to contain something but have effectively left all the windows open. Wtf.

Because Trump has a golf course in the UK. Seriously, that's probably the reason:

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/12/trump-coronavirus-travel-europe-resorts-126808

Restricting travel from individual countries has been rendered largely moot, because community spread has long since become a thing. Hell, you're probably safer having travel in from China than most western countries at this point, because they're actually taking steps to mitigate spread while the rest of us faff about.
