Be a bit odd to decide to close football stadiums at the weekend, there's currently 60,000 people at Cheltenham.

    School closures imminent.

Got to keep the voters happy.

    Even if it kills them...

I know you're taking the piss (which you shouldn't), but I really hope Tom Hanks doesn't die. He's one of the few people from Hollywood who isn't a ****.

I'm not sure we should be taking the piss at all, it's killed 4,637 people so far.

    I am sure
We shouldn’t be (* humour isn’t the same as taking the piss about an individual who is suffering)

I'm just conscious of the fact, that at some point, there's likely to be someone on here who's connected to one of those deaths.

Completely agree (EDIT Just re read my post. I was agreeing but could be read the other way. My point was light humour about toilet rolls etc seems ok. Taking the piss about people being ill isn’t)

My taking the piss was more the fact they dropped all the news to say he was ok, but didn’t mention anything about others that have it and are probably not ok.

Covid-19 is new and infectious, it is speeding it’s way through the global population so we all get it at once. Having lots of people sick at once is disruptive to daily life at best, and a disaster for the healthcare systems at worst. Particularly for an illness where 10-20% need medical intervention, and 10% of those patients will die.

“common flu” has been around forever and the numbers reflect that. Are you really comparing figures from a few countries over three months to annual flu figures?

although you may wish to ponder that “common flu” still manages to kill so many people despite widely available vaccines and understanding of the disease. How much worse will the figures be for covid-19 without vaccines and with everyone exposed at once?

La Liga's now been suspended completely.

Man City vs Real Madrid set to be called off after Spanish club tells players to self-isolate after positive coronavirus test.

Hopefully they'll suspend the entire English season and eventually declare it null and void. We don't get relegated, Leeds don't get promoted and Liverpool don't win the league.

I am getting really really pissed off with the amount of "it's no worse than common flu" comments I see everywhere.

The common flu can be routinely vaccinated against. This can't. I have a wife and a father who are both vunerable to it. If either of them gets it then it could kill them. I won't be going to another match this season probably.

I am really worried about how little our country seems to be doing about it too.

Absolutely not surprised though. This is about what I expected us to do.

Everything seems to be so random too (for example, football matches cancelled, Cheltenham going ahead). We know what's coming, and it seems we're waiting for it to happen as opposed to taking proactive measures to take the strain off our health service. My missus is a doctor and the 'preparation' she's reporting back to me is worrying (in that there's very little, and what there is is along the lines of 'ask registrars to work outside of their specialism'). Judging by the experiences of China and Italy, there seems to be some merit to us having already cancelled any mass- or medium-scale meetings of people. If we're highly likely to be taking such action in a couple of weeks, why not do it now? Surely that would be best for those vulnerable to this virus.
