A marra of mine has just asked me and he's totally lost on this

He's a current girlfriend but she lives on the other side of town 3.5 miles away

She's a vulnerable person with a few medical issues

Can he still gan & see her get some shopping in

She has family but there often busy with their own families

He often gans for her money every other Friday too at the post office

He's petrified about her & if he gets stopped by the polis

Can he still see her make sure she's ok then go back to his home

I agree. Personally think the whole financial system is broken and a terrible situation like this shows how bad we've let it slide. My guess is instead of using this as a catalyst for change it will be business as usual as soon as this is over.

I don’t ‘dislike’ the man. I don’t know the man.

I’m speaking from what I am personally seeing every day. Good that your company has that capability, thousands don’t.

I know for a fine fact Sky and BT don’t, so there’s around 100,000 heads to start.

He is the man who could take all of these folk out of the firing line. He hasn’t.

Well I am shocked that a 'communications' company like BT can't do something which a simple O&G company can and likewise Sky, a huge company on the cusp of technology who also has a communications division. Shocking to say the least and most probably why I choose to have my broadband through an alternative provider :emoticon-0140-rofl:

I completely agree about the lock down like. If he'd started off with draconian measures and military on the street, some parts of this country would have exploded. As it is, I think the hope was that in the voluntary stage, some folk rebelling against having their movements restricted would change their view and that has happened. The more people you can get to do this voluntary, the less **** you get when it becomes mandatory. I do think if this is going to be going on for months we'll have martial law and troops on the streets like.

Its mainly to do with privacy and security laws. Before GDPR we could likely have said to anyone with a laptop ‘you’re set’.

    No longer viable.

Your ‘alternative provider’ is likely exactly the same, as the majority are at least part owned by Sky or BT anyway.

Troops are on standby mate. It will happen and the police will be able to focus on doing police work whilst advising military leaders.

Only make a trip outside if it's absoloutely essential mate. If he gets her money for her, he could get her shopping at the same time. And he can drop it on her door and stand back while she gets it in. They can talk through the window. I mean, if a 4 year old kid with cancer can do that with her dad, I'm sure he's capable of something similar.

Amazon had 'security keys' before upping their technology. Could Sky and BT customer service teams not be set up from home with laptops and 'dial in' to a centralised network to do their job from home? Restrict a lot of customer service to 'chat' or similar? I know you've said not many have a laptop but most people have personal ones who could access via a website and then in to an intranet. Citrix is also a downloadable software that allows a similar thing. I know it's asking people to use their own computer but they could be subsidised in some way...

We use Citrix, and they are looking into it, but it only works on certain versions of windows for the security to work etc, many folk don’t both er updating laptops etc nowadays as it’s all mobile phone.

I personally suggested the ‘chat’ idea, but access to the accounts would still be required. The talking part isn’t an issue at all, it’s accessing data.

The only information or clarification any one needs is simply stay in as much as possible We've ended up with these measures because of the amount of twonks who thought a day trip to the coast was a good idea and it's to give the cops a few powers to sort those numpty heads out, not for someone getting a bit shopping for his lass.

I completely understand what you're saying mate. My Mrs is NHS and I work offshore, both key workers with a 4 year old boy we have to juggle with nursery and she really wants me home. However, we have to also accept there is a lot more to it and what we are doing when doing our job is helping the country stay as stable as possible. I don't know your job but could you imagine if the whole UK continental shelf stopped producing oil and gas? Reserves aren't huge and every home uses gas and most people need fuel for their cars, let alone ambulances, delivery drivers etc. Unfortunately, we have to get on with it and know that we are doing something for the greater good.

I hope you can come up with a solution soon mate. I know that GDPR is a big thing but we are in an unprecedented situation where rules and legislation could be 2nd to the health, safety and welfare of the majority.

Agree totally mate. The facts are we are under OFCOM, the likes of Amazon etc aren’t, there’s a fair bit more freedom.

OFCOM fines are huge, a quick google will show you that, se how much BT/EE (same company) and Carphone Warehouse have been fined for not correctly ha doing customer data, it’s a far bigger minefield than an unregulated industry.

The facts are, why are sales and service staff classed as key workers? Marketing?

I get that the network engineers are vital and the broadcasting arm, I don’t understand the rest.

People are going in and every conversation is in can’t believe we are still here’. That’s the failing.
