So much for his gung ho handshaking, lack of distancing and prompt action. Twat, how many has he infected.
Councils told to house all rough sleepers by the weekend: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-52058788 About time, I'm bound to say. "Every local authority in England has been told by the government to house all of its rough sleepers - as well as people in hostels and night shelters - by the weekend. A letter from Dame Louise Casey, Boris Johnson's housing adviser, tells councils to redouble efforts to ensure everyone is "inside and safe by this weekend" due to the "public health emergency". She says: “These are unusual times so I’m asking for an unusual effort. Many areas of the country have already been able to ’safe harbour’ their people which is incredible. What we need to do now though is work out how we can get ‘everyone in’.” It is important to close down street encampments as they are "high-risk" for spreading coronavirus, Dame Louise says. In a trial last weekend, rough sleepers were put up in about 300 hotel rooms in London. Homeless charity Crisis says the move is a "landmark moment" but questions remain about what support local councils will receive to achieve this. "The Government has committed to ending rough sleeping by 2025 - this proves it can be done in 2020 if we make it the priority it deserves to be," says chief executive Jon Sparkes. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has not yet commented."
A good move long overdue, now let's see the resources be made available. I hope the social services have the staffing and expertise to carry it off after the years of austerity.
My condolences go to the virus in this difficult time. What have you got to say about it Boris? “I’m shaking hands continuously. I was at a hospital the other night where I think there were actually a few coronavirus patients and I shook hands with everybody, you’ll be pleased to know. I continue to shake hands." Wise and comforting words, I'm sure everyone will agree.
Doesn't anyone else find this a bit worrying? Not so much for Boris although he is heading the policy group, but that he's been rubbing shoulders with the chief medical officer Chris Whitty and the UK's chief scientist, Sir Patrick Vallance. Not good if they are all in isolation.
Amongst other otherwise unforeseen positive outcomes. Less pollution being pumped out over our environment - which directly, and ironically leads to a healthier population in the long run. Less waste being produced, and so on. The forced reigning in of our unsustainable way of living, by the C19 pandemic, is a signpost to where we have to be heading, long term. Clean, healthy and sustainable has to be the goal, and, even with what we know right now, it is achievable.
Another good outcome would be if the Chinese stopped killing endangered pangolins...nether I nor the pangolins are holding our breath.
Maybe if he took this more seriously early on and actually took precautions instead of shaking everyone's hand for PR he wouldn't be potentially infecting our top officials...
Wasn't a woman in the government positive some weeks ago...someone in the health department. May have started there. Found it...Nadine Dorries.
I agree, a pretty poor example to everyone by not taking his own advice. But the situation is now the two main politicians involved (PM and the health secretary) are both infected. If Whitty and Vallance get it we would have a bigger problem I would think.
