The UK is in the same position as the vast majority of countries around the world by not being fully prepared for the pandemic. France is currently suffering a lack of PPE equipment to enable the French police to perform their duties. I expect all governments will be better prepared for the next pandemic.
One of my friends is a health care worker here, and 10 days ago was complaining she didn't have all the PPE equipment she needed when she went into the homes of the elderly. Two days later it all arrived for her. It wasn't that is wasn't available, but a case of getting it distributed to the tens of thousands of people doing that job. Today there are stories of care homes in the UK with no equipment for the staff. It should be easy by comparison to get equipment to a care home rather than the many here who are scattered all over the country. One can only assume that it isn't available.
I have just been to the village shop to buy a newspaper and some milk. I duly put on a respirator, the guy serving had a normal face mask, less protection for the wearer but more comfortable long term. On returning home I wiped the milk down, not sure what to do with the paper. I then realised I had touched the inside of the mask before washing my hands again. These masks are meant to be single use but I doubt many will throw them away each time.
I presume any new cases will generally be people who have had to go to work or people having to go out for essential stuff (or flouting the rules!) Does anyone go on the WFC forums? Sad to see so many fellow Orns having the attitude of keep the vulnerable and elderly locked up but let everyone else on as normal. How long can you do that for anyway. 12 weeks as it is!
We arranged for a box of respirators to be sent to the care home my mother-in law is currently in. They are not being used either within the home or for the care staff to go shopping etc. My wife spoke to a care assistant who said she finds them uncomfortable so will not be wearing them unless instructed to. One good idea from the home is to allocate 10 minute slots for residents to have FaceTime chats with their relatives. It worked perfectly well this morning for my wife to speak, and see, to her 95 year old mother.
I don't go to that forum, but have seen plenty of comments elsewhere along those lines. Quite what you do to get people to see that it could be them next if they think everything is well in their world.
.. And they then infect others etcetc. This can incubate for two weeks. Sadly too many younger people are dying.. It really is in everyone's interests too hunker down for a few weeks... Sad but understandable to see the perspective of many younger people..
Have you not read previous posts? It is perfectly normal for a person to do everything to keep her vulnerable grandmother alive, it would be odd not to.
Michael Gove said there was “communication confusion” after the government missed the deadline to join an EU scheme to get extra ventilators. Downing Street said this week that the UK had decided to pursue its own scheme rather than joining the EU’s procurement scheme. However, a No 10 spokesman said that officials did not get emails inviting the UK to join and that it could join future schemes. Now we know that was not the case, simply because two Ministers were at the meeting in Brussels when the joint procurement proposals were discussed, so emails blah, blah, is nothing short of a lie. My point is that if the government is seen to be lying like this, people will not know when they are telling the truth.
Absolutely.. You have a stash.. supposedly from your daughters business... Meanwhile there are people desperate for them.. And you were offering them to people on here the other day... Odd eh..
I guess they have been told ceratainly at first they'll just be mildly ill with the virus. Does give them the "I am immune impression" It was more the suggestion we should be kept shut in and everyone just carry on. Think they were seeing it from an economic point of view which I can see. But how long do we stay indoors for? 12 weeks,6 months , a year. I stlll get the impression some think this virus will just disappear in the blink of an eye of a certain set of people shut down. All this is being done for a good reason and the Government will hopefully help businesses struggling.
There have been reports of so called middle men trying to arrange to sell the government ventilators at triple the usual price. There is bound to be much confusion and political opportunism.
