Sounds like it might be 6 months on and off of lockdown.

Guess it's so fluid day a day day nothing is certain.

My brother in law returned from Australia last week and he is self isolating at home, but he had to travel to get home.
His wife in continuing to enjoy life without him for a further 2 weeks <laugh>

China can rightfully be blamed for creating the virus and blocking knowledge of its existence for ages. I expect all nation's coronavirus reports are similar to ours with experts not knowing when the peak will be. England's deputy medical officer, Jenny Harries provides technical answers in a calm and assured manner.

You really are behaving in a very odd way. Jenny Harries gave no answer, anymore than Jennick. If they had been on rollerblades they wouldn't have got out any faster. If you are happy to be insulted in this way so be it.

what a claim , so disease and pestilence now has a passport?
what really is the point apart from whipping up xenophobia and diverting attention of your own inadequate planning and response to a epidemic that was flagged up months ago .
it’s trumpian type childish nonsense that does nothing but create antagonistic language , one of the success stories of a scoundrel led regime , moving the narrative to become a blame game :headbang:

The vast majority of the British public are satisfied with the answers. Whatever they had said would have produced a negative response from you, it is your default position.

No, I listen to what is actually said, without swooning because a Minister is trying to cover up for the inaction in the lead up to this crisis.

Because the 'hen' is no longer golden. Italy have declared they will no longer put themselves into hock with the EU similar to that suffered by Greece. They are not prepared to except ruinous conditions basically controlled by Germany. Italy's only hope is to leave the EU and devalue its currency. It would not be easy but remaining seems an even worse option without a bail out from richer members.

All of this is old news now. There will have to be a coming together from all sorts of places when this is all over. To look at it as it is now is quite delusional. If there is no coming together, then you can expect France to close the borders with the UK, stopping food from Spain, medicine from Poland and car parts from Germany. It should be clear to all that a new trading relationship will have to happen, which will mean the EU devising a recovery plan. The UK will have the chance to join in with it, or not as they choose in future, but it will not be anything like it is now. We should not forget that whichever the way the UK decides to go, it will also need a recovery plan from this.

Just maybe a better world order might emerge from it. WWII was the last disaster on this scale, and it took time, but eventually countries came together and for many years things became better as countries worked for the common good. The rise of nationalism over the past years has set this progress back, but now there will have to be a re-think on what is best for individual nations.

Yes. Some might answer this is nature's way of rebalancing... Who knows.. But we can be pretty sure that world structures will never be the same again.
This is a real challenge to bring out the best in each of us...

If the French block any borders to the UK for selfish reasons this will hardly create a spirit of goodwill from its Spanish or Italian neighbours. The French are actually one of the EU member states with little to lose if no deal occurs. There will no doubt be acute pressure from member states that trade a lot with the UK to force the French to behave sensibly. The initial discussions between EU members could not have gone worse this week so a lot depends on the next deadline in two weeks time.

Like all countries, the UK will have a recovery plan but ours will be combined with new Brexit arrangements. UK /EU talks begin again next week, Boris should keep to his promised cut off time at the end of this year.

France is quite well positioned as it takes quite of lot of the fresh food from Spain. Spain will want to get back on its feet asap, so selling to the nearest country makes sense. The same goes for Italy. Why try and send its produce across a stretch on water when it has a huge ready market on the doorstep. Both countries will say sod all that paperwork when we don't need it. Your idea of pressure has already been shown to be a fallacy. The German car makers haven't as far as I have noticed forced the government into a bad deal. The actual effect has been companies removing their presence from the UK.
Seeing as two thirds of the population in the UK now want to extend the transition period, including nearly half of Tories, then maybe common sense is starting to get into the heads of the majority. You would have to be a bit of a bonehead to want to tear up agreements when you are still in intensive care.

I’m sorry I am less optimistic. We've had it amply demonstrated to us that those who don't give a tuppenny for others still prevail and still spout the same old horse excrement. The greedy bastards will carry on as before, ****ing our (i.e. their grandchildren’s) planet beyond repair, taking advantage of the old, the poor, the disabled, anyone and everyone they can, with and without discrimination.

Spain and Italy would not thank the French for spoiling their UK market. EU member states are now fighting like rats in a sack for their own national benefit. These are desperate times especially for the Southern European countries still suffering extensive hardship from 2008. The EU answer to everything is to delay, push the problem down the road. The UK cannot allow that to happen.

    A very good read.

Comment EU project in ‘mortal danger’ if Italy and Spain are abandoned
