I bet to differ. I never ever thought in a million year's that NNO would get shunted onto page two, but that's where it's sorry arse is right now. Languishing with the down and outs and the bums on skid row.

Plus there are apparently younger people with no underlying health problems passing away. Not what we were led to believe. That's incredibly scary.

But are these figures for cases (positive tests) or hospital/ICU admissions? Germany has done far more testing of non-serious cases, I believe.

We now have more people in hospital, then we have ventilators, though obviously I've no idea if they all require one.

And that's likely to be very short term, as we've apparently got loads of ventilators being delivered soon.

As far as I'm aware, they're just hospitalised cases, so the amount of testing is largely irrelevant (or Germany would have far more closed cases).

FFS, she does, she is and I arrange ASDA online deliveries for her, like I have been doing for several years already. She has great neighbours looking out for her - I don't live local to her. But no-one is stopping her leaving the house if she wants to go out, that's the point.

I still don't get what more you want for people like her. It's all very well saying the young and fit should just crack on, get it and then get over it, but the numbers just don't add up. I see you didn't answer my post about number of hospitalisations vs number of NHS beds...

Well, the Guardian website has a story about British American Tobacco (BAT - geddit?) using tobacco plants to develop a coronavirus vaccine. The Guardian usually has an April fool story but surely not this year?

It's actually part of the B&M franchise now .. owned by them and as such it is the B&M group who have sanctioned the rise for all of their staff including those deployed in Herons . Bout time tbh my good lady works at B&M and has been having to deal with shed loads of fkwits day in and day out stepping out to buy none essential shyte without any form of PPE .. no screens at tills .. nothing. Home Bargains on the other hand recognised the work of their workers and have installed protective screens while 2 weeks ago assuring their staffs positions and giving them bonuses on top.

You'll also find that B&M (including Herons) are now giving NHS staff 10% off their merchandise

We were led to believe (or I was) that a very small percentage of younger people with no underlying health problems would pass away. This was reported as being the case from a very early stage (having a son with asthma, I've been all over such reports). I know it's scary seeing young people pass away like that, but it should be noted that a) the coroner hasn't reported on some of them yet (there was the case of the young girl last week having passed away from Covid-19 but it turned out it was a heart attack that was the cause of death), and b) such deaths were always going to happen, as sad as they are. No one ever said that there was no risk to young, healthy people, just a very small risk, which appears to still be the case. And those that do happen will make big headlines, thus driving home the fear.

I watched Trumps address to the nation last night. They are in denial beyond denial. Give us 30 days he said. He looked a broken man reading from a script he found it hard to read. Anyone that knows Americans will know that their 'we are American' stance is likely to be their downfall. They estimate their best case modelled scenario as between 100k and 200k deaths "IF" everyone follows the rules of distancing etc. They initially forecast 1.5 million to 2 million without these rules...

With a blanket testing policy, those infected having full paid sick leave sat in isolation, perhaps the hospital numbers would be lower and the lock down unnecessary, saving many more lives in the process.
