Jesus on the Trophy Final episode and it’s a harsh reminder of how Ross just never spotted danger until it was too late. Owners screaming at him to change it and stood there looking blank. Reminder why he had to go.
He was oblivious. The reaction when they said there was interest looked genuine. I’d agree was hardly bursting to stay mind.
I'm gonna read the thread at the end, don't want spoilers Episode 1 Notes: Charlie Methven; "A little bit Ibiza" he came across cocky but like he knew what he was doing. Juan was loving it! Asoro had a right face on him after Ross just introduced himself, miserable twat. Maja is a quality finisher and his first touch was underrated.
Episode 2 Notes: Donald's ideas look very idealistic in hindsight. His talk around agents seems particularly naive. He wasn't prepared to pay Maja as a key player, I think he saw him as a youngster and didn't realise just what we had until it was too late. Richard Hill had no sense of urgency about him at first and still seemed to underestimate his talent when discussing him. Luke O'Nien seems like a good and level headed young lad as does Maja. I forgot how optimistic things were at the start under Donald.
He was very involved before his political career took off. He then had to relinquish his role with the club due to this. That’s the only time he moved away from the club
Episode 3 Notes: That Irish lass in communications absolutely ****ing hates Charlie. Maja is absolutely quality. We dropped a massive clanger. Donald and Hill in particular were not prepared with the demands of agents in proper football. Davidson came across as pretty respectable. He understands the nuances of how to handle staff. Charlie is like many managers I've seen before. He loves the sound of his own voice, he wants to come in with a big final idea and demand results without understanding the challenges that anyone has to make it happen or to assist them. I'm not sure if no-one else wanted to be a part of it but Maja And O'Nien seem to be the only players really featured. That's enough for tonight
Thought most of the fans came across well. The problems to me were having two different people in charge with two totally different styles of how to manage things. Confusion at the top filters all the way down to the shop floor. Donald clearly loves the club and it's under his skin. He cares about the people who work for the club. He doesn't seem to understand the best strategy to make the club more successful. He has people to advise him but still makes a lot of his own decisions. He flapped when he was talking to agents and let them lead negotiations. The Grigg deal was stupid. Ross wasn't fussed about him but Donald was hell bent on getting him just to say he'd signed a big name player without thinking of the bigger picture of how he would actually slot into the squad. In highsight, we should have had strikers signed up as soon as Maja's agent started playing silly beggars. We could have told him to get lost then and had ample time to bring in a new player or players. Methvan has good ideas but his people skills are terrible. If you've got an unmotivated workforce, you're not going to get anything more out of them by continually swearing at them and telling them they are ****e. He came over as very rude and arrogant and I think he caused more problems by his approach, rather than sitting down with the staff and working through the issues. I thought the threat of telling the senior they would be responsible if other people were made redundant was a cruel trick. They do need a kick up the bum but he went the wrong way about it and alienated them further from the club, as shown by Sophie's departure. Donald needs to listen to his advisors and follow his head not his heart. We need a figure in charge of the club who can work with both Donald and the staff so everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.
Haven't got past episode 3 yet Becs, but totally agree with most of that. I Think Donald is well intentioned but naive and out of his depth. Methven is an absolute Grade A ****er. He's smug, elitest, arrogant and rude. He's clearly from a background where he feels it's acceptable to talk down to others like they're **** on his shoe. He wants to just click his fingers and things to be done, without listening to the concerns of his workforce at all. He's a bad manager.
People have always talked about a rotten core at the club. I think CM found it and it wasn't the players. The fact that not one of the marketing/promotions team read his presentation is a joke and not a good way to prove that you're valuable to the club that's losing money hand over fist. The way that she rolled her eyes when he was speaking pretty much summed up her attitude. As a communications manager she should have at least been away that the PA system was knackered. Came across to me that quite a few of the management team had been happy to sit on their arses taking a wage as there was no one (Short) there to over see them. It looked as if none of them had the ability to think for themselves which is a trait that you want in any manager.
Thought owners come across really well. Hearts in right place and really desperate to succeed. Thought it showed our fans in a really bad light actually. Any potential new owners watching that would run a mile I’d have thought. Don’t think these behind the scenes programmes are a great idea. Cameras always focus on the cretins.
Only seen the first two episodes but already there are several things that leap out at me. Anyone that still thinks that Donald is in it to make money is wrong. Hill has about as much get up and go as a dead slug. Seemed happy to accept that Maja was leaving. Maja was a lot, lot better than everyone remembers. Methven was trying to do the right things but clearly is the type to rub people up the wrong way. The way the club was being run before they arrived was worse than I imagined.
Just finished watching the last episode and for a bloke that doesn't get too emotional I must admit that I shed a tear or 2 It just brought home to me that as a fan group we've had more than enough of absolute heartache and misery to last a lifetime It's about time we rise from the ashes with new wealthy owners to take us to bigger and better times
Agree with all on Maja, them little snippets, we knew we had something but ****ing hell we REALLY had something. The fact he’s now a Nigeria international linked with Chelsea for £15 million speaks. I’m up to 6, but the deeper I get the more I want Donald to remain involved and I hope the fans can build bridges. With the right folk around him, the finance and the guidance he’s exactly the sort to build a club for us, the fans. Seeing it in the show really brings home that we had it and ****ed it with Coventry and Pompey games at home.
Working in Advertising, I have meetings with PR agencies all the time. For example, done a lot of work for Jeep over here and they have an "Agency Village" that comprises of Advertising, PR, Digital, Social bla bla We all have to align on what's happening. If Methven sat across from me I would immediately switch off. The guy is a ****ing fraud.
Even though we all know how it ends, I enjoyed this series better than the last one, just seemed to be put together a lot better. I know the name "madbob" from RTG gets banded about on here a lot and some say he's not a real person, well he is and in episode 2 when they having talk in at Roker Vic with all the Seaburn lads, he's one at top table in middle with bald head. Methven came across as a bit of a cock at times but we all knew he was anyway and that Irish lass proper hated him I still love the club, **** everybody else.
Think Maja is full of **** personally. I think his agent did a great job of positioning himself as the fall guy but I'd guess they were in on that together. No bother with that really, the kid now plays abroad, in the top flight and has made his international debut. No arguments from me. I just don't buy into the spiel.
Maja was never staying. Obviously the camera man picked up on that when they panned to his nervously tapping fingers. Even his comment "i'll definately be here next year" was a caget answer as he knew that he couldn't transfer until January.
