I realise that you have your tongue firmly in your cheek with this, but it may well be that the only way to get anyone to work 'in the fields' is to pay them a decent wage. This will inevitably lead to higher prices for any/all home grown food. Options: wide-scale food price inflation, or government intervention in food production, distribution and sale. Luckily, we are in a free market, light touch, economy, so what can possibly go wrong?
Only part T in C actually. Asparagus farmers near me pay foreigners minimum wage but take half back to allow them to sleep in rat infested barns and eat slop. It's a scam to get over the legal wage requirement. Now they are whining. The asparagus goes to restaurants that charge eight quid for as many stalks. £15 an hour would I'm sure produce enough labour.
With Boris unable to do the daily press conferences, it is falling on other cabinet members to lead them. Having watched today's (and most of the others), I can't help but feel they'd be best advised to avoid using Gove. He comes across as so unrelatable, and untrustworthy.
How about Thicky Patel? They let her loose for thirty seconds last week and got a storm of protest, and not just from those politically opposed to the Tories.
At a time of great national and international crisis when we need a Prime Minister with integrity and honesty, with an analytical mind, a decisive decision maker, a leader who can carry all the people, someone respected by everyone, someone who puts the people first and has an air of calm authority and purpose we get spaffer ****ing Johnson.
It’s worse than that. Spaffer has rung in sick and left duplicitous Grove in charge. If he succumbs, it’s Dominic Raab - we’d be better off with a garden gnome in charge tbph.
No doubt of that! Thankfully the Mogglydyte and that awful Pratel seem to have disappeared from public view.
This Covid-19 virus crisis is truly dreadful, but the rank incompetence being demonstrated by politicians and the bureaucrats running the NHS are turning this crisis into a national disaster. Before anyone jumps on me for being ‘anti conservative’ I would be feeling exactly the same if it was any other government behaving in such a shameful manner. The lack of preparedness in the UK during the emerging stages of this pandemic is unforgivable and these people need to be held to account. There is no excuse for not testing our emergency service workers, and every citizen in the country. Germany are doing it and so should we. What makes me sick to my stomach is the vacuous promises and assurances that are just blatant lies with not even a grain of truth to them. Doctors, nurses, paramedics hospital support staff, the police, care assistants and other essential workers such as supermarket workers, delivery drivers, warehouse staff and millions of other people enabling us all to enjoy a reasonable diet while in isolation, they all need testing and protecting. They all need it now, not “in a number of weeks” as one ‘expert’ suggested. Every life matters. We are assured that millions of face masks, gloves, eye protection have been delivered to hospitals yet they are either sub standard or simply don’t exist. It is a complete and utter disgrace that so many people are being put at risk because of stupidity, incompetence and abject greed through many years of lack of investment, privatisation and government cuts. It’s as if the politicians reel off their statistics, completely detached from the facts, but the facts are that thousands of lives will be lost due to their lack of a cohesive plan of action. This catastrophic failure is going far beyond anything I could ever imagine a British government could create. There needs to be a reckoning for this and my hope is that the British people will recognise just how many of our loved ones and fellow citizens have died needlessly, just because we have a government that has demonstrated that it clearly can not govern or protect us in any meaningful way. They are an absolute disgrace and they have to pay for this.
She's naked ambition personified. If I were (thank the duck I'm not) spaffer Johnson Rishi Sunak is the one I'd keep in front of me. Given the recent mail and telegraph attacks I wonder if the grey suited mandarins are circling. Et tu brute! Edit: Recent FT article. https://www.ft.com/content/b465a3fe-73b1-11ea-ad98-044200cb277f "The young Rishi, known as Rish to his friends, spoke English at home and grew up passionate about cricket, Southampton FC and its footballing genius Matt Le Tissier. A practising Hindu, Sunak recalled: “I’d be at the temple at the weekend . . . but I’d also be at the Saints game as well on a Saturday.”
Except for his Brexit position maybe? https://www.standard.co.uk/news/pol...l-rishi-sunak-european-union-eu-a4351801.html
Listening to Hancock's half hour this evening wherein he said the government are writing off 13 billion of nhs trusts debt. I was wondering does this just mean revenue debt or does it include capital as in PFI. If it does include PFI this is a big deal going forward as it will remove the millstone that has hampered the nhs for more than a generation... Surely to good to be true...
