I've just got a letter this week to say that I'm one of the vulnerable group and that I'm not to leave the house for 12 weeks. It's a little surprising to me as I although I have some health issues, they are well managed. I've been working from home anyway and getting the bulk of my shopping delivered, though I probably go to the local shop once a week and go for a walk to get fresh air every other day. I'm now wondering whether to change tact and follow NHS advice which of course I should do, I just feel that I've had a very sensible and safety first approach to this from the beginning and further isolating will be at the expense of my mental health.
Hi mate. The situation became worse today. Excercise outside is now prohibited. People are frightened and our nearest village is deathly quiet. There's a 'one out - one in' system and the corner shop owner looks totally washed out ... ... she must wonder if the next customer through the door is a carrier.
Funnily enough, I was on a conference call with our executive team at work today and one of them used the same Churchill line. It was interesting how serious they see all of this. They're a massive multinational financial corporation and they were suggesting that worst case scenario our company stays in the holding pattern of working from home until a vaccine is sorted.
I was surprised to get the letter. I've been poorly for several years but had surgery last year and I'm settled on meds. This year I feel the fittest and wellest that I've felt since for about 6-8 years! Just be careful and keep away from people as much as you can. I've still been going out into the garden and I've talked to neighbours but made sure they kept a good distance away from me just in case!
This thing is still growing in a hell of a lot of places around the world. Sadly i believe it will be for economic reasons, not health that countries start to lift restrictions.
It's worth noting that the UK is still only counting deaths in hospital i believe as that's the "international" method that's been agreed upon. Some countries are including aged care facilities etc.
I agree with you but at some stage pragmatism has to come to the fore, I'm pleased I'm not the one having to make those decisions. I couldn't sleep at night making decisions of that magnitude.
Ah , it seems we’re also “ all in this together “ as well MPs have been offered an extra £10,000 each to support them while they work from home during the coronavirus pandemic. The extra budget can be used to buy equipment such as laptops and printers for MPs and their staff, or to cover additional electricity, heating and phone bills. The money, which comes on top of the existing office budget of about £26,000 a year per MP, will be available until March. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa), the expenses regulator, also relaxed rules on the evidence MPs must provide and suspended the 90-day window for claims. The credit limit on MPs’ payment cards has been increased to £10,000, and they can now spend up to £5,000 in a single transaction. From The Times
I would like to say unbelievable to these last two posts, but nothing surprises me these days, and wonder if they are connected in some strange way.
Agreed. At our place (I'm a civil servant), the question was asked thst if we are working from home can we claim for extra usage of electricity etc. An emphatic no was given!
It would have much more effect just seeing them dragged out the house and shot on tv amazing how other people thinking about it will suddenly understand much better when it’s explained this way
Attempted murder I agree , and long imprisonments. These two though will get off with little . I’ve read of a couple of spitting in policemen’s mouths recently , in both cases they got 4 weeks (suspended) and a curfew. One was 9pm til 7 am , the other 7 pm til 5 am . If that’s to be punishment, surely keep them in during the day rather than saying you must stay in the house when you’re asleep !
Every day of the Coronavirus update from the Government, you get to see how the quality of our journalists and media are so bad. The odd decent one, but my god, the questions that they ask day after day makes me want to boot the tv in.
I know it's great that people are knocking up masks, etc, for NHS staff, in their garden sheds and little factories ... ... but what does that say about the state of the country? We have a totally predictable winter flu epidemic every year ... ... do we really not have stockpiles?
Same old Tory party eh https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...t-Jenrick-seen-visiting-parents-lockdown.html But this seems promising https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8206445/What-exit-strategy-lockdown-look-like.html
