It is what it says on the tin. Running from Monday to Sunday. Suggestions for the winner to go on here and then we’ll decide on Sunday each week.

My opening nomination is The Judge with in response to CC’s

“yes 7 days from now max”

    JD posted

“It was Albert who asked the question......”

Will remain open until close of play Saturday for decision time on Sunday or not if no-one is bottomed.

" or not if no-one is bottomed "

I'm not joining in if that's the criteria.

That sentence doesn't make sense Trev. You either need to drop the word 'with' or you need to insert a comma between 'with' and 'in.'

    Grammar is important!

I was always taught that end of sentence punctuation should fall inside quotation marks. I could be wrong though. I am always willing to learn.

In this context you were correct. I appear to have been Americanised at college. I shall go and take a shower and self-isolate for seven days. Hopefully this will rectify my ailment.

You have sullied your scorecard Sir! I was clearly quoting, as indicated by use of the single quotation marks. If they had been apostrophes then they would have appeared inside the word, or only at the end to indicate possession (for words ending in 's').

I don't class single ones as quotation marks. I use them to highlight key words.

I must apologise as my careless abandon appears to have allowed the Americanisation to spread. I should have self-isolated earlier. Your interpretation of single quotation marks is the US American standard and not that of UK English.

We really need a teacher to come along to adjudicate and educate us in correct grammar!

In teaching this is classed as a deliberate mistake to check the understanding of the student.

A clever ruse Sir. I hope I passed with flying colours.

I should point out that I am not always pedantic. I ignored Trev's complete lack of full stops. I took into account his profession and right-wing leanings, recognising that he may well spend his life pursuing longer sentences!

Well, it’s nice to see that the spirit of the thread has been captured by some. When identifying examples of pedantry it may, however, be advisable to note whose thread this is and remember from previous experiences as to how the decision to determine a winner was made.

Also, it is useful to ensure one’s own grammar is correct when identifying the failings of others. After all, grammar is important.

I think you will find that all of the grammar used in this thread's responses is correct. However, some of it may have been used on the wrong continent!
