CBs seem to be at the forefront at the moment, as we've also been linked with Kurt Zouma...which I can't see happening, what with Chelsea being, well, Chelsea

Yeah I’m glad that it seems CB is a real priority if reports are accurate. Godin’s name popped up again yesterday too.

Although - and excluding the Chelsea factor for a second - not sure on Zouma, seems to have a good few ****-ups in him and doesn’t strike me as the type who’d massively improve our backline. I think he’s similar to Sanchez, potentially great and is a real athlete of a CB but needs someone experienced alongside him who can help get the best out of him. A Zouma-Sanchez partnership wouldn’t fill me with much confidence like a potential Godin-Sanchez/ Savic-Sanchez/ Koulibaly-Sanchez would, latter being the dream but never happening despite constant rumours saying we’re interested.

I’m kind of surprised to see us linked to so many CBs. Even if Jan leaves and Foyth, who I get the feeling Mourinho isn’t a massive fan of, leaves on loan or we find a buyer, we still have Toby, Dave, Dier and JT. Sure we need a +1 there but you’d have thought a DM to be the top priority - which makes Sanson a surprising link too because I think he’s more of a progressive midfielder, no?

We've also still got Carter-Vickers, who I assume will be moved on, while Malachi-Walcott's also a primarily a centre-half, IIRC.
You'd have thought giving Vertonghen another year or two would make more sense than splashing out on a replacement.

You’d have thought so, especially in what is likely to be a restricted transfer market this summer. But if he wants to go back to Ajax while he can still be useful for them for a couple of years, then there’s not a lot we can do.

If we're looking for a CB who has potential but has an error or two in them, we already have Foyth for that - who's three years younger yet has played almost twice as many internationals

I honestly don't get why Foyth is getting the black sheep treatment. Yes, he's still raw and hasn't had enough first team football to iron out the wrinkles in his game, but the same can be said of Zouma who's had considerably more opportunities to iron out the wrinkles yet they continue to appear

I think that if we can get back what we paid for Sanchez, then he could be a surprise departure this summer, quite a lot in the media that we need to sell to buy and if that's true if we can find a buyer then big dave maybe the one to move. I don't think Jose is a fan (much the same as Foyth) and as such selling these 2 maybe on the cards - worryingly I can see Jose pairing Alderweireld and Dier as his 1st choices for the rest of this season he clearly rates Tanganga and then Zouma may be a relatively cheap option to add a 4th CB for next season

I like Foyth but he’s in a weird predicament. Three years in and his role has barely changed, arguably worsened seeing as Jose’s taken a shine to Tanganga.

I don’t want Zouma but equally can’t really see where Foyth fits in anymore. Had he not been injured at the start of this season it could’ve panned out very differently for him as he was looking a decent bet for the RB position but he couldn’t get back into the side when fit under Poch and then since Jose’s been here, Aurier’s been preferred at RB with rumours we’re looking to sign another RB and there are now four (possibly five if we include Dier) CBs above him in the pecking order and is also a position we’re looking to strengthen.

Feels like it’s wrong place wrong time for him here at Spurs.

If we're going to sell to buy, Aurier is clearly the big ticket item - especially if we sign Meunier for £0.00 and, on paper at least, we can lower the asking price for Aarons if we include KWP in any deal

I thought Poch was lining Foyth up to be a DM until he had the injury last season , then on his come back he picked up the straight red , the kid never got back in the team after that

I wouldn’t miss any of our defenders if they left...what’s the point in hoping Jan stays other than loyalty? or making up numbers...neither are progressive reasons...He looked done last season.

Foyth isn’t progressing like he wants to play first team football and cement a place...been at this stage for what seems like forever.

I think providing he does enough on loan to make Southampton want him, he’ll be used in negotiations for Hojbjerg. Although I’m probably not as keen as others are on Hojbjerg, if we can get the guy at a cut price with KWP going the other way it’s a good deal.

I'm pretty similar to this view although I’d exclude Sanchez and Tanganga as I think those two can play a big part for Jose.

Definitely agree on Foyth, one reason or another he just keeps missing out on that opportunity to move up a level. Nearing the end of his third season with Spurs and he’s probably 5th or 6th in the CB pecking order (Dave > Toby > Jan > Tanganga > Dier > Foyth) and 3rd in the RB pecking order (Aurier > Tanganga > Foyth) so it’s tough to see how he gets sufficient minutes going forward. Think he’ll turn out a really good player but it’s just not gonna happen for him here.

I we should have thought about Vertonghen stay on as a player/coach.

Can't do anything about Alderweireld after the lunatic decision to give him the contract back in December.

Sanchez is do lacking in confidence it is surreal. Not sure if he will ever fulfill his potential with us.

Rose...please do not let him return.

Foyth is not wanted. No idea why but is never going to fulfill his potential with us if Maureen ain't interested so should be sold.

All I would is that Mourinho is getting a preseason of a sort now.
Maybe he'll have a chance to see the likes of Foyth differently and maybe he can boost Sanchez and possibly even Alderweireld who did seem to go downhill very quickly and possibly was struggling with Poch last year and the transition to Mourinho this season.
With a bit of time possibly these things will look better when/if we resume the season.

I don’t think Jan wants to be that sort of bit-part player and I wouldn’t blame him either. Brilliant servant to the club though, wish him all the very best in whatever he chooses next.

Think Rose will join Newcastle on a perm. Pretty sure he even said he’d like that, gets him closer to his family having been away for so long, Jose clearly don’t want him so it’s in the best interests of all parties.

I think with Foyth it’s just “where does he fit?”. He didn’t get much of a look-in under Poch and it’s worsened under Jose. I think we as fans can tell he’s got huge potential but it feels like his way into our side is blocked, Tanganga’s emergence also really didn’t help him.

    Foyth has had chances though

In them chances I see someone who has the ability to play football(Like you and I do) but I don’t think he has the required fight to make it. When I step back and look at him I’d say he doesn’t have the right drive. Not being funny but our back line has been up for replacement for over a year...yet he hasnt managed to cement a place. In that same time a rookie has taken his chance(Tanganga) with both hands.

How does that happen? Tanganga is no prodigy...just a hard working, hungry player.

    Think Foyth needs to go

Yeah I’m quite interested to us upon restart, rustiness expected but a full squad to work with should be good for Jose to see what he thinks will and won’t work. Alasdair Gold also mentioned how happy he is with Tanguy recently (did look a bit more streamlined when watching the training match highlights) so hopefully the kick up the arse worked. Looking forward to him and Gio linking up and supplying the likes of Kane/ Son/ Bergwijn/ Dele etc.
