Yes Chilcs something along those lines albeit in euros and cheaper here in the Netherlands. The actual drinks list will be something on the lines of G&Ts. a glass of Riesling with the prawn cocktails, I'll turn to a robust red with the coq Mrs Jab staying with the white followed by cold Muscat Beaumes de Venise with the Gateaux for both. Coffee and brandy optional.

Because of Liebfraumilch and Blue Nun, Riesling really has got a bad name. If you are willing to risk it, it can be amazing.

    This brings back memories.
Many, many years ago, my family used to get together for a Christmas Meal, and one year my dad, who lived in Woolston booked us all in for an unforgettable experience at the London Arms, a dive of a pub, in Woolston.
It was one of the best evenings, despite it being the worst ever meal.
Starters were Breaded Mushrooms or Soup of the Day. Mrs Badger doesn’t like mushrooms, so asked what the soup was. Mushroom, came the reply.
The main course was supposed to be Turkey, but was Turkey Roll and the dessert, advertised as a Christmas Ice Cream Log, was nothing more than an Artic Roll.
This was all served up by two old dears, in tatty cardigans and wearing slippers, who we unfairly nicknamed, because of the time of year, the Ugly Sisters.
At least the pub laid on entertainment when a fight broke out and the doormen had to evict the brawlers.
It was so very bad that we spent the evening splitting our sides at JUST how bad it was.
When dad started off a collection, it was the first time I had ever seen copper in it.

There is a Riesling called Kung Fu Girl - comes from the US - sounds odd, but its really good.

I re-checked the title of the thread, having read the entries. I know that we've got the luxury of seven days between matches, and we are safe, win lose or draw, but is football likely to intrude on this culinary mystery tour?
If not, I've made some home brew, from a kit. I've left it (in the shed) for the required length of time, but it still looks a bit cloudy. Is it just a matter of leaving it longer, or do I accept that I'll never be a master brewer? A master baker, perhaps.

Ah yes indeed there is some footy to come, this is the match thread and there has been some digression for which I may be partly responsible for.
Re the beer plenty of expert info available my first thought is trust your taste buds and try a pint. Other than that what about the shed temperature? It was a kit perhaps there's tips from the supplier online. Keep at it you'll find the recipe and technique that produces a brew or brews that suit you. Looks interesting https://homebrewanswers.com/clear-home-brew-beer/
By they way are footballs still round?

Yes that and can you find somewhere to store it at a constant temperature cool if possible.

Black Forest Gateaux has had a bit of a renascence in the last few years, appearing back in kitchens and on menus.

    classic 70s meal:

starter: Prawn Cocktail or Melon Balls with ginger powder

    main course: duck a l’orange

    dessert: Black Forest gateaux

Drink: Mateus rose or blue nun

    heaven for @Archers Road

Feck me.... caught up now and seems I’m. A little late to the 70s party.

    Fashionably late for those times

Round here? Not noticeably. We seem to be in a kind of stasis, where we know we're safe for another season, and we also know that we're not really in the football season any more. What about the transfer window? Is it open? Can I be bothered to find out?
