    Well Phil Hay gave the game last week when he wrote that one of the conditions of Bielsa staying last summer was Jansson being sold. Hence the hastily agreed transfer to Brentford as he needed shipping out at the double.

    Now the question is, why did Bielsa stipulate that ?

    According to one particular legend it was all about squad unity and collective purpose. If even only one person, however slighty, questions the methods and or the reasoning behind things being done the way they are, it weakens the collective drive and spirit in the camp. Bielsa was certain that by removing Jansson a gain could be made and with fine margins sometimes the difference he deemed it a neccessity.

    The phrases, bad apple and selfish were used by the legends, something you would never normally hear about an ex player, especially one who seemed so commited on the pitch.

    Again according to Phil Hay, everyone is treated the same, they have to do the same running, meet the weight targets etc etc no exceptions. The only deviation from that has been recently when Pablo due to his age and injury was allowed some special dispensation to try to get him through the season. Jansson on the other hand twice wanted to return late to pre season training, disobeyed the order to allow Villa to score and according to the legends showed a total lack of team unity when isolating himself after the defeat to Derby (play offs). They found that particulary distasteful as his number one priority should have been to be with the rest of the squad in the dressing room trying to console the lads that had actually played and lost.

    Can totally see where Bielsa is coming from but it also worries me going forward. If we are going to compete in the PL it will mean dealing with some charismatic characters, quality players usually come with a bit of an attitude. Orta is going to have to spend that money wisely or we’ll end up with a stroppy £50m striker sitting in the reserves

    TBH, it was more or less what I anticipated - except for the Bielsa ultimatum. And I'm guessing he was right. Just think, if Pontus had stayed. where would we be now? Starting from scratch with average players, a new no-mark manager, and a brewing financial crisis.

    It's possible that this one act saved the club from dying a slow & horrible death - much worse than the last 16 years. So it's possible, if not probable, that we owe Bielsa even more than we thought we did.

    Fortunately we'll never know to what extent that meltdown would have entailed but it's probably fair to say we could have written off another decade. Personally I was on the verge of calling it a day for future ST renewals were that to happen.

    You're 100% right, we owe everything to Bielsa.

    Aye, I got that from the first suggestion, but there's nothing there for getting a email alert for conversations (DMs). I used to get an email alert for every new convo & every update to it (which pissed me off getting 50 mails some match days, tbf), but now it doesn't happen, & I've changed nothing. Do you get email alerts for convos?
