Evening all. Been a ****ty anniversary fir me and the missus as our boiler has packed up and effectively been written off! Looking to replace the entire system including radiators and pipe works and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations
That’s one big job. You don’t need to change radiators and pipe work, just get a power flush which cleans it all out. A new installation also has to have a magnetic filter which is great for collecting the **** so it doesn’t circulate Can’t beat a Worcester Bosch or a Vaillant combi
Are new "fossil fuel" heating systems off the market yet in the UK? Here (France) it's all renewables e.g. wood (or derivatives), heat pumps (air or geo). And with grants for getting shot of gas or oil burners.
Bugger all " renewable " about wood or it's " derivatives" mind! The pellets they us are often shipped from America, are very expensive and though they dont make black smoke, chuck some ****e into the air when they are burned. For new houses, gas will not be allowed after 2030 under current legislation. I think.
Condensing boilers are obviously very efficient and the issues I see with Ground source heat pumps is space. In order to have that, you would need hot water storage in your home. The UK only offers a grant on new installations. For older systems, they provide an incentive where they pay you for every unit generated and make a payment every quarter, so you would need to fund up front . They are also best used on underfloor heating and have the potential to be less economical on old radiators. Air source are less efficient than ground, the incentive is less and you will get a constant fan noise from the outdoor unit
Chatting to the old boy I've had repair and service my boiler recently, ( and the best fitter I've had) I asked him which boiler Manufacturer he thought best, Worcester or Vailant. Since every fitter seems to differ in opinion. His reply was "neither" He explained most fitters get a discount from one or the other so cost and familiarity ruled. He went on to say that Baxi mainly use stainless steel, copper and brass parts. Makes sense seen as though ive had a boiler rust through on a Vailant and many a crap plastic diverter valve etc give way on Vailant/Worcester, just like crap plastic parts on cars today. I'll be getting a Baxi next.
Power flush is a con mate. Thats how mine was flushed about 9 years ago after being recommended a power flush after my Vailant boiler rusted through. Quoted around £800 (yeah right ) Still have the same radiators in.
It will only be a few hundred quid now, they nearly saw you coming. I would suggest that if I was putting in a new boiler, I would get a power flush as it would still be better than a mains fed one. Your boiler rusted through cos you never put any inhibitor in, lazy tight get
Whay he might get a discount from Baxi, but if you check most reviews, I think you will find they are a little down the list overall , but its all down to preference. If you have a look at his company website he does indeed push Baxi and Viessmann
Not at all. There was inhibitor in it So you would pay a few hundred pounds for something you can do for nothing ? How will it be better ??? They obviously more than see you coming The boiler rusted through because it was crap. Obviously a baxi one wouldn't because its stainless. Like i said, mine was flushed through for free about 9 years ago. The Vailant was swopped for a Worcester. They both have inherent weakness in plastic parts that fail with age, just like modern car parts on coolant systems for instance.
Who, the gas fitter i get ? He doesn't get a discount from either. The video i posted points out that the parts are stainless, brass and copper and that was the point Reviews shmoos. The op asked for an opinion and I passed on the advice of a seasoned pro I know from changing crap plastic parts on cars stainless copper and brass are far superior. I'll get a Baxi next and you stick to Vailant or Worcester I'm not saying they are crap in general but they are fitted with crap parts
They all use stainless or aluminium now though. Worcester had aluminium ones as did most of Baxi with only the Platinum series having stainless. Aluminium doesn’t rust but does have other disadvantages. Vaillant also have stainless steel. Your boiler could have been 30 year old. Yes if I was paying for a new boiler, then I would, I’m by no means a plumber but I’ve been in building services for over 20 years before doing what I am doing now. If I am paying that much I’d much rather I knew how much pressure was was being applied and also if a chemical was being added. Your just old school . Plus Baxi will have inherent weaknesses too
No bugger lugs, the guy in the video I’ve got a new Baxi last year man, couldn’t afford the expensive stuff
Aluminium corrodes. Maybe Vailant and Worcester use brass and stainless now, i don't know. If they are then i wonder why ??? As Baxi already were. I've not had a boiler for 30 years, your making assumptions, The Vailant lasted 10 The old boy who advised me Is a time served gas engineer although he went on to become a pilot. Now retired he does repairs and services on occasions to keep his eye in and keep busy He's not out to sell me a boiler By the way he and a few other gas fitters have rubbished power flushes but I suppose some folk can be seen coming If something is flushed out, it's erm,,, flushed out. Do you put them wonder magnets on your cars fuel line for more fuel economy ? Anyway , you and the op can go and buy a potterton for all i care
Oh for fook sake Argumentative cnut Has it got a stainless boiler and brass diverter valve ? Bargain if it was cheaper than the other shìt
Baxi 800 and a magna clean system installed last month , 40 year old pipework and nine radiators were left in, two days start to finish.
just had the same thing - boiler and water cylinder. Was recommended a Vaillant as easier/cheaper to repair...... apparently. Just been fitted.
