What nick does Bamford go under on here? We have Rodrigo who can take his place and a couple in the U23s who can make the bench, I’m more concerned about an injury to Meslier and having to rely on Kiko
And yet Bielsa not only failed to replace him in the summer, but didn't feel the need to have a backup for competition either!
I've switched off at HT. Such a dull match. 95% of the match must be in the Baggies third. Big Sam is back! Sadly .....
Bamford has missed 10 big chances, Wood has missed 11. Our final ball is usually appalling so Bamford has to make chances. But He's behind Salah £108m Calvert-Lewin £40m And Song - £80m Bamford is worth £13.5m, not much !ore than we paid. He is over performing and has raised his game incredibly in the PL. To me he looks dangerous when he gets a decent chance. He's getting better all the time, look at his pen today. I agree that our midfield need to chip in because with the way we play several players get chances, at least Bamford takes a few of his.
Joking aside, I’d have thought Instagram and Twitter were the poisonous places for them to avoid. A forum is a place for discussion and mixed opinions. It’s for members to persuade others that they’re looking at it though the wrong looking glass. Last season I posted shed loads of times about what Bamford brings to the team. This season I’m more than happy with him but I get where Emu is coming from. If season after season we want to avoid relegation and finish around the middle the squad is fine. If we want to push on to the next level we will need to replace several players. I’m far more frustrated with Harrison than Bamford and whilst they are skilful on the ball the chances Rodrigo and Raphinha miss are also more painful than Bamfords as the expectation is far greater
He bought Spains number 9! I'd say thats competition. I'll say it again....Bamford is having the season of his life and I am thankful he is. Bielsa is fiercely loyal and that inspires confidence in the squad. If Bamford were to get injured there is a good chance that Rodrigo would excel up front. He seems to do ok with Spain.
Agree with you and Emu but could Adams do what Bamford does?maybe he could because Bielsa wanted him?bielsa wanted Rodrigo but so far has refused play him at CF
If Rodrigo was bought as a competing CF, then he should have replaced Bamford immediately, if that CV meant anything. It clearly doesn't. I don't recall him ever playing CF. Whether he has or hasn't is irrelevant imo, as I only see flashes of the player I thought we bought. He's had plenty of chances to score, but only managed 2. Perhaps someone could check what his conversion rate is? I'd rather a player missed a bundle & scored 10 than a player scoring 2, no matter what his conversion rate was.
One for our refereeing pundits was the foul on Bamford that gave us a penalty. I always thought that if you deprived someone of a scoring opportunity, you got a red card. As it happens, last week I heard a commentator mention 'double jeopardy' if it was a 'keeper that committed the foul leading to a penalty. But Pope didn't even get a yellow!!! Can someone explain that one to me? I've never heard of this 'double jeopardy' thing, & if I had my way, the 'keeper would be off too. I'm quite confused by it, actually.
Sorry to be pedantic but you suggested that Bielsa failed to replace or get competition for him. I'm merely pointing out that Rodrigo plays centre forward for Spain and we signed him. I'd say that's competition up front.
There was a press article (can't remember where) before he signed for Brentford that said we were in competition with Brentford for his signature.
It was a rule brought in a few years ago. If you commit a foul in the area and give away a penalty then you don't get sent off. A penalty (probably goal against) and down to 10 men was deemed too harsh sentence and makes the game uncompetitive as a result. If its outside the area then it is still a red. The only explanation of today's penalty is that the ref saw Pope get the ball first but also took the man and was therefore not a professional foul or that Bamford was going away from goal out wide. Maybe the ref didn't see it as a clear chance as it was Bamford in front of goal....
I know what you're saying, but I've seen no sign of competition. Only player I've seen replacing Bamford is Roberts, suggesting that Bielsa considers Robers a better option at CF than Roberto. Makes me wonder what precisely he was bought for.
I'm sure I read earlier in the season that Bielsa doesn't see Rodrigo as a 9, if Bamford got injured, then he'd be replaced by Robert's, which is a terrifying thought
