At least this whole thing is being handled honestly and above board, by the looks of things... so far. Normal contract stances from both parties - if a top four club definitely wanted him at any point within a contract, he'd always be going anyway. Unfortunately, he'll be cheaper now, so a more attractive prospect, and more likelihood he'll be seriously considered by a top club. Main thing we should be concerned about is how it might disrupt our current season.
We should also all want Chelsea's form to take a massive upturn - to stop Lampard getting fired, and to knock the likes of Spurs and Leicester out of the CL spots.

No way he's going to Leicester - Leicester don't compete for top targets from English clubs, whether they're in the CL or not. Look at their squad and you can see that. Predominantly because they can't, but plus Saints would have them at the bottom of the pile they'd consider selling to. Danny wouldn't be interested in going sideways. I'd personally still be surprised if Leicester make CL this season.

Chelsea, Man United, Spurs, and Man City could all do with a certified PL striker - but Chelsea won't come in, I don't think. Shame, as I'd swap him with Werner any day, assuming Danny was going anyway.<laugh> Can just tell Werner would thrive at Saints - back with Ralph, he'd be the top striker in the league.

What about Liverpool? Might be interested now that we have polished him up a bit.

Long way from this yet but if he went there this Summer I'd be trying to get Greenwood on loan.

Shame, as like someone said, speculation will be rife now, and possibly disruptive. Ralph is a straight talker, and I'd imagine he won't want to entertain the potential circus this will create. The media love to sell our players, so in addition to the 9-0 they will have a field day. In honesty, not looking great is it.

Sadly, l can see a move to Spurs as a possibility. CL football is achievable for them, and l wonder how long they can keep Kane. Even if they keep Kane and they do get into CL, having a third quality striker is a must. Their front two currently carry Spurs, there is a strong logic for them to go for Ings.

The club's having trouble convincing me it's ambitions match mine, so do I have every right to leave and support someone that can?

Rhetorical question; the answer is no, bollocks do I, and neither does he.

You’re saying that Ings has no right to want to leave to join a top tier club because the club he currently is at doesn’t have the facilities to become one themselves?

    I dunno, am I?

I think I'm saying that supporting a football club is a deeply emotional affair. So **** being reasonable about it. If he leaves, he certainly won't do so with my blessing.

Not exactly over the moon about this development myself. Just can see where Danny would be coming from.

How many times have we fallen head over heals in love, with players and managers, only for our club to break our hearts and move them on? Why is it that other similar size clubs to ours tell the other party to piss off, or set a ridiculous transfer fee, yet when it comes to Saints, that doesnt seem to be the case.
It seems to me that Katarina has been conned by alleged rich businessman who has no bloody money!
Why cant the likes of say Jim Radcliffe see the potential opportunity in buying such a club like ours? The only man who had the vision was Marcus. RIP
My wish is that Gao eventually sells up, and we end up with another ambitious owner, that can support Ralph with the money he needs, to move Saints up to the next level!

I don’t think there is a huge issue here. Way I see it:

Danny is a local lad, loving his time here, rebuilt, revitalised, confident

Would be more than happy to stay. Money is not the issue to him

Happy to sign a new contract and keep on playing for us but would like a release promise if his dream move came up as he is pretty much at the peak of his game

Difficulty for the negotiators in this current desperate financial climate is where to set the release bar. £50 million doesn’t feel unreasonable to me but his guys may be trying to shave £20 million off that.

I think he will sign a contract with a release and he may or may not get an approach that appeals to him. If he goes we get the money set and with our blessing.

In the meantime he carries on banging in the goals and who knows he may find himself in Europe with us.

Good thing is there is no sulking, troublemaking or negativity going on here from what I can make out

If Ings isn’t in the squad Saturday, my jokey post about a club not wanting him cup tied might be prophetic, with him going this month.
If he makes it onto the pitch Saturday, then I will at least expect him to be here for the rest of the season.

Danny Ings is just one man and he doesn't make a team, if he goes then the club will continue. I don't want to make my point too simplistic but we will still march on. Let's not forget the club has functioned from 1885.
There will be ups and downs but we will always have a club to support.
    Be happy not worried.
