Things certainly have altered. Compare yourself to Harold Wilson when he was elected in 1964. He was a year younger than you are. When I left school I thought the headmaster was a Mr Chips type who had stopped on out of love for the job. He seemed like a relic from another age. When he died and there was an obituary in the local paper I discovered he was 45. I was older than that by then. My wife still asks what I want to be if, rather than when, I grow up.
Frasier Crane - "Middle aged? I'm not middle aged, I am 38." Niles Crane - " You are if you live to be 76."
“I want to be young and wild, and then I want to be middle-aged and rich, and then I want to be old and annoy people by pretending that I'm going deaf!
There's a huge range. Certain things age you. Traumatic life experiences, bereavements, health issues, kids etc etc. Supporting a football club owned by the Allams has been seen to be a huge factor, also.
Ever watch the Wonder Years? They were knocking down a wood where Kevin and Winnie had carved their initials in a tree. It played the Joan Baez version of the credits. Her soaring voice just suited it perfectly. Used to enjoy that series.
I remember that episode - Wonder Years was essential viewing in our house, a bit of father/son bonding time on a Sunday afternoon. An excellent series.
It was brilliant wasn’t it. Remember one ending was a female singer doing In My Life But can’t remember who Very evocative
It was clever how early on it was shot from low down when his dad was in view so he looked a rather intimidating character and that altered as he grew up and realised his dad had feelings and problems. The episode where Winnie was leaving to study in Europe and Kevin said to her he always just imagined she would be around and they would be together and ended he turned to her and " it's not going to happen is it?" and she just looked sadly at him was Shakespearen tragedy levels. Kevin's sister, played by the daughter of Mike D'Abo, former singer in Manfred Mann and the man who wrote Handbags and Gladrags, was fit. Would watch it again if they ever rerun it.
